VT route check / Rutland mtg place?

I'm planning some routes for wife and kid on travel through VT next week and would be grateful if VT bears could weigh in on two questions:

1 - Coffee shop or diner type place as a target for two travelers meeting up in Rutland VT ? One is coming up route 7 from the south, the other coming down route 7 from the north.

2 - From Rutland, they're heading to 91 south. Google maps says US4 to 100 south to 103 south to 91. Dumb question perhaps but is that the best route, and is it going to be passable in winter conditions?

Can't help you on question #1 as I don't know meeting spots in Rutland. But as to question #2, that is the best & fastest way to get to I-91 South, assuming the final destination is south of Rockingham/Bellows Falls. It is the most traveled route to 91 from Killington area (among skiers anyway) so it is entirely passable in winter conditions.

Thanks to both of you (and to google maps which got it right in the first place).

Phil - A little googling but nothing called "Sugar Shack" I could find in Rutland. Do you mean "Sugar & Spice", Rt 4 Mendon Meadows Rutland, VT 05701?

tsO1 If I am reading this correctly you are looking to travel from Rutland to I 91. If that is the case you want to go south on route 7 out of Rutland ( about 3-4 miles) then there will be a sign to route 103 going east, that will take you down to I 91, you go past Okemo that way. If you are going from Killington then follow the other directions you were given.
A good coffee shop/ diner is Sewards in Rutland on rte 7 about 1 mile north of Rte 4 east intersection.

Snowbowler has it right. From Rutland, go south on 7 and pick up Rt 103. Much shorter than the other way. And Seward's is good spot to meet. Just be aware that their sign has been in shambles for over a year so be careful or you will miss the place.

Thanks a lot guys. It's my fault they'll be up there freezing anyway while I'm off skiing so I want to make sure this goes smoothly.

Midway Diner(cleaner and bigger than your usual diner) or Vermont Bagel Cafe. MWD is on Rt 7/Rt 4 at the big dip and the VBC is on Rt 4 as your heading out of town towards kmart. The wife is a RutVegas native and I grew up nearby.
