Its been a couple years, how is my gear?

Basically, I haven't been out for the last two seasons, and the gear I have is at least 6 years old. I would consider myself a intermediate skier, skiing double blacks at Liberty, Roundtop, and Whitetail in Pennsylvania. So, how does my gear stack up to the latest and greatest?

Skis = Volant Super S-Series Karve
Bindings = Salomon 600-Series Quadrax
Boots = Salomon Evolution 9.0

Thanks in advance for the input, and glad to be here on the forum

That's older than 6 years... if you like it then it's good.

Has gear gotten better? I think so, but your stuff should still work the same as it did and in reality your opinion is all that matters.

When someone is out of skiing for a while and says their gear is "X years old"...I usually double it . True to your case, your skis are about 10-12 years old. You are due.

Each year there are small improvements in the gear as the MFRs learn what works and what doesn't. Over six years, the improvements mount up and the change is significant. I would say one important trend in skis has been to wider skis that still perform well on groomed slopes. However not having the latest and greatest shouldn't prevent you from going out and having some fun.

I'm pretty sure I bought a pair of Evolution 9s in the early 90's. I've never had a pair of boots pack out that much.

In boots thats a bad thing---loose fit---hard to control a ski

Gottcha. The ones I have have the thermal fit liners that they heat up then you put them on for a while and it retains your fit. I guess all the Evolution 9.0s are the same right?

On a side note, I just realized that my car is also a Evolution 9..

You can link turns in the bumps on Gunbarrel or Ramrod with those Volants? Impressive.

Honestly, probably not anymore. Since last time I went skiing, I gained a couple years of non-practice, and about 20 lbs.
