Moving to Jackson (Hole), WY

I am moving to Jackson at the end of the month. I've got a place set up already that is pretty much right in town, don't plan on working (even if I did I am hearing jobs are HARD to come by for a variety of reasons). I will be there until at least May.

I've never been, and besides any inside information I am really looking for information on getting a cheaper season pass. 1900+ is pretty steep and I'd be willing to do pretty much anything as long as it doesn't get in the way of doing a ton of skiing. I'm thinking I could volunteer somewhere or something?

Also, since I won't know anyone it'd be pretty cool to hook up with some people to show me around. I'm good company, I promise, but the pay isn't great.

Lucky you! Wish I was coming to JH this winter, but it appears to be the first winter I've missed in a few.

Enjoy your season.

A job on the mountain comes with a ski pass, a bus pass, and some discounts. There may be various openings mid season for any number of reasons. I'd look into parking cars 2 days a week. I'll show you around one day when we both have time.

I figured every on the mountain/resort job was going to be full time. 2 days a week parking job sounds perfect. I will have to look in to that.

Now I have to figure out how to get from Idaho Falls to Jackson. I could probably hitch, but I'm going to have a couple bags of luggage plus skis.

Hi, Don.

Welcome to "de Hole".

There are actually a number of on-mountain jobs that are part-time but still offer a pass. Have you contacted the HR department at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort yet? That's where I would start.

Also, the local transportation company, Alltrans, offers a once-per-day shuttle to and from the Idaho Falls airport. It returns to Jackson from the IF airport at about 4:00pm each day and costs $40 one way (which is one heck of a deal). Website and phone number below:

Good luck. This isn't a bad place to live.

Sounds like a great move. I grew up in Star Valley just south of Jackson. My parents think I come home to see them, but really its to ski. just food for thought don't over look Grand Targhee.

Earthquakes and Avalanches.

I'll be getting phone calls from my family every 20 minutes to see if I'm dead yet.

I made it.
After 2 days of ripping it my legs are soar. Taking a day off to hit the pavement and find a job.

Mountain is insane. Yippie Kay Yay.

Any locals/people familiar with jackson have a burrito place they like? Besides the breakfast burrito at D.O.G.

If anyone wants to play tour guide for a run or two, let me know.

TPJ took me and Jgiddyup to some Mexican joint last season. Forget the name, but it's on the main drag as you head outta town toward JHR. Food was decent, but they had these "kitchen sink" sized margs that were the real draw.

Also, don't discount the mighty Snow King. I actually had one of my best days last season on that tiny hill. It's got some sweet vert and a couple of nice chutes that you have to hike the ridge for. Plus they have night skiing...and it's right in town.
