Wow! Close call... X-Rays pics...

Last week I was walking to the Public bus stop after work and totally ate it on the ice.

Crack.
Tear. I heard the whole thing- those terrible sounds rippled through my body from my right ankle.

It has replayed in my head a thousand times. I immediately got up and started hobbling around. As I rode the bus, I kept flexing my ankle as much as I could.
At home, I kept moving it. and eventually wrapped it.

It was pretty painful. The ankle didn't swell that much, and although it was pretty painful I kept skiing on it. It totally screwed up my skiing, I had no confidence to weight the ankle. It seemed like the harder I skied it, the better it felt, but slow edge to edge transitions produced off the Richter scale pain. I was afraid it was broken.

Yesterday, I bucked up and finally got some x-rays. Whew! Nothing broken. I've sprained that ankle a number of times in the past, and even broke it once and didn't know it. Many people think they've sprained when they actually broke something. If you look closely, there are very small bone fragements at the distal end of my fibia. They are very small bone fragments suspended in my ligament from a slip when climbing about seventeen years ago. I remember the time, place and exact fall when I "sprained" my ankle. Funny thing is that I kept walking on it and went on to one of my most prolific climbing summers of my life...

I'll be talking it easy for a few days trying to get up to speed before the JH gathering in about ten days.

Anyhow here are few pics of the good news:

I had a great day for the first time since it happened.

It was the first time I felt like I was on it. We had great snow up high, and we had a tremendous time. It is really nice being off the B-team.

How's it feeling?
Our friend who was supposed to do this trip with us fell of the roof of his house and crushed his heel, and broke his ankle. His Xrays don't look as good as yours.

Heal well SIJ!!

Ouch! I'm very thankful I haven't really hurt myself.

I had a great day on the hill yesterday. I'm still a little shaky in my ankle, just taking it easy...
