How to lower by a 1/2 a size

I've been told that the shell of a boot has no 1/2 sizes, instead the 1/2 size is made up solely by use of a thinner insole.

What is the difference in thickness?

Big,

I've never measured. Some shops don't even bother ordering half sizes .

marketing is the difference.

I order all boots in the XX.5 so they feel larger.

some boots are short stitched liners, some thicker footbeds, some thicker boot boards

I suppose I'll have to try tape under the bootboard, and added thickness under the insole.

thanks

what are you trying to achieve,

is it that 1 the boot is the correct length with too much volume or 2 it is just too big, if the former then you could put a shim under the liner or some padding over the foot or even a zip fit liner or similar to reduce the volume a little, if the latter then new boots are the only real fix

They were fitted this season, by qualified fitters. The length and width were deemed good.

However, unless I ratchet down the cuff and tighten the instep buckle to press the instep down, the liner will move back and forth in the boot.

I also need to ratchet down the cuff to get decent response from the boot (ie, decent shovel pressure).

That worked for a couple days, then lifting the ball of the foot became easy. Twisting the foot, ie. big toe edge up alternating with little toe edge up can be done without anything happening to the boot.

Big,

Sounds to me like your boots are simply too big (even if the length - just one dimension of fit - is ok).

Who fit you....?
