No turns allowed and the length could go to 12-14 feet in the mid-late 1800s in the Sierras.
Things change and I would not go back to the wooden or metal or early fiberglass skis of the past.
Enjoy the new technology and ski. Easier is better, there are enough other challenges than to try and make turns on long, skinny and unresponsive skis. I would never wax nostalgic for the old skis...todays are the best and I wish they had come along 50 years ago.
