Stupid question: TGR?

What is this thing called TGR? I'm assuming that it's another forum.

Comments on TGR seem to run the gamut from sarcastic and disparaging to "go check that out on TGR."

It's a different flavor. Wasn't for me but there is good info there too.

There is room for TGR and Epic.
As Philpug says, Epic is like Cheers, while TGR is like Coyote Ugly.

"What do you say to a cold beer, Norm?"
"Going down?"

Thanks for the info.
The forum is hard to look at, but it seems worth a gander once in a while.

I feel polluted by the way the 'maggots' at TGR speak to each other. They give credence to the theory that Gen X stands for Generation Excrement.
But TGR has great links to archives of pics, personal blogs about the mountains out west, reports by mountain watchers who can actually see areas like Jackson Hole from their homes...
So, for that I ignore the generally disgusting quality of the postings there.

Notable quote from the first and only thread I saw over there at TGR:

hey outlaw
suck from my ass with a straw.

That pretty much sums it up.

Baby Boomers gave birth to Generation X, a club to which I reluctantly belong at 40. Those kids at TGR are, at best, the end of GenX, and are more likely in Generation WTF.

Actually..

Epic is a restaurant that serves drinks, TGR is a bar that serves food.

Bringing World Cup caliber ski equipment and service to all skiers - from pro ski racers to everyday all mountain skiers and into the...

You mean a strip club that serves food and drinks.

There are morans on TGR. There are morans on Epic (stick around).

Epic is going out on a nice birthday dinner with your family. TGR is going to a rowdy bar with your buddies. Alpinezone is going to a (bad) kindergarten play rehersal.

TGR is for those folks who can't really carve with proper technique, but instead of taking a lesson, they instead decide to be disdainful towards those who can actually ski and instead flail about in soft snow and throw themselves off of rocks (they consider this skiing). They also like to walk up the mountain that aren't ski resorts so that they don't feel self conscious about their lack of form.

I think TGR is what happens when people from newschoolers.com grow up from punk kids to punk adults.

EPIC is a party in a licensed establishment.
TGR is a bush party at the abondoned ski hill in Fort McMurray.

Sweet I guess I just lost 3 decades or so.

I'll take 'in your face' to 'chicken faced innuendo' any day. Oh wait I did.

ps. 6000 posts in 1 year!?!?!?!?! That's got to be just loaded with quality stuff there.

Thanks Comprex, nice to see some who might remember me. I wouldn't say 'back' but nice to see you're still around and enjoying the odd beer for whatever reason. (like one is needed)

At least some of the TGR morans actually climb the mountain:

You forgot to mention how they all have blown ACLs from setting the DIN too high on their bindings to allow proper release!

I think it's generally agreed upon that the spelling is 'moron'. Of course I could be wrong, I'm just an idiot.

Originally most people were on the Powder Mag forum until there was an abrupt mass exodus.
"Go check that out on TGR" can have different meanings. Sometimes it's purely informational. Sometimes people are suggesting it because tgr allows much more latitude in language usage.

Often people will say to someone who's essentially trolling nothing but trash and whining, "why don't you go over to tgr", but I don't agree with that. To me that's like telling someone to go over to the next neighborhood and start lighting houses on fire to see how fast they put them out. Sure, a lot of people at tgr would have great fun trash talking some jong but really it adds nothing and wastes energy. It's easy to trash something but creating and sustaining something is much harder.

Tgr has a lot of great information. They do a lot to help each other out. They encourage members with kids, (it's not all "generation wtf"), to get the kids out on the mountain and try to help them out. Basically they've created something of value to a lot of people and that's worth protecting. So I'm not going to send someone over there to trash it because I have too much respect for what they've accomplished at tgr.
I'd send those people to a useless site such as epicskisucks.com because there's a site that's defined itself as a garbage can and will basically become one.

Most people on TGR like to laugh.

Every once in a while Epic provides fodder.

Thanks.

TGR has some good info and good skiers, and I can put up with the language, because my mouth is not much better.

Two threads in particular put me off. One they all piled on about how useless a racing background is. Makes me wonder how well they really ski. In another, they ran around for days like a bunch of giggling 12 year olds because the had found an ad for...Gasp!... a prostitute! Real mature group there. She seemed like a nice honest working woman trying to look after her kid. Guess they have a bunch of self ordained hard ass guys who know little of how hard the world can actually be.

TGR does make some sick movies though

so wait, if you think all this about TGR, what do you think about Newschoolers.com? god i can't wait to hear this
