I intentionally did this (sort of) just for fun the other day. took the moderately hefty boards (90 underfoot) out on a really hard packed and icy day.

In a weird way it was kind of fun, certainly made me think about my skiing a bit more. Not sure I'll be doing it again anytime soon, but it was a fun experiment.

Don't say that I didn't think the list was humorous but I just take a lot of these comments as... nice bullshit list Powdr... suck it? Just my interpretation from a few posts but heck yea who cares what other people think I LOL'd at a few of these.

Sweet list Powdr!

How about those guys that ski on Carvers and have the nerve to ski pow-pow with them. It's just wrong.
I think that list could be renamed "stuff I get a good laugh about on the hill"... And you forgot the best stuff...

Full face helmets

Race spandex nowhere near the course

Talking like Spiccoli in the liftline

PS- I always wear a neoprene facemask- but just so I don't frighten small children. You see, I'm a hideous man-beast. It ain't pretty.

Also, my skinniest ski is an 89 waist. Does that make me an East Coast Gaper?

Which is a worse offense for me, smoking on the chairlift or not having pow pow skis on a pow pow day? I suppose I could go full euro race coach and wear carvers and smoke on a powder day!
Actually, I've given it up so it's moot. Besides, I only smoked cloves. I do prefer a bar to lean on with a smoke though. Hey, does snowbird have bars on the chairs?
if this is true, Ill never ride a chairlift with you.

I'm just here to post in this very important thread

+1

Do whatever you want at the resort, just bring money.
Stop using that horrrible term Pow-Pow. The correct word is Freshies.

Wow - what a surprise. Yet another thread devolves into a bunch of gapers whining about how traumatised they are when they can't lower the gaper bar.

They still make skis that are only 90mm underfoot? Or was that guy talking about XC skis?

Glad you found a way to be distracted for a few minutes.

Enjoy your time with Bumpfreaq.

Gee Jer, it seems the only trauma was the gaper who, in all his rides on a chair, still can't figure out how to get his fat head out of the way of the bar.

Probably too busy staring in glassy eyed admiration at his fat skis.

Hey mods - could one of you please put "don't take me seriously" back under my name? I think some people(^^^^) didn't get it the first time. Thanx.

If it had actually been funny that would be different.

But the winner in the dorkfest:

hard core 'locals' from the 'back of the Wasatch' [oooohhhh!!!] compiling long internet lists of activities that make the non-locals uncool.

Here's a hint: the real rippers are too busy skiing to care about someone else's poles or turn radius (or even powder cords--no matter how many gnar points they cost you).

Mom's basement? Won't that make you homeless?
I've never been hit by a bar. I've never seen anybody hit by a bar. Where does one's head have to be to be hit when the bar is coming down? I guess I could almost visualize it happening to a REALLY tall person, someone leaning their head off the side of the lift, or someone not sitting up straight like grandma told them to.

Also, smoking a cigarette ruins the fresh air. Is it OK to smoke something other than tobacco?

He's pretty handy, so you just never know.
He's quite the chef, so you should hit him up for some vittles

Nah I don't smoke anymore Bush...and even if I did I'd still ride a lift with ya and not smoke. I guess you won't be riding the lift with skifishbum though, esp. if it's a powder day!

The skiing in packs where no one really has the control or awareness to handle a sudden fall in front is bad.
Worse is out of control high speed skiers. The other day this kid came flying out of nowhere at probably 40mph and hit an eight year old girl. All I heard was the sickening crunching of a collision. Skis, poles, all over the place and the kamikaze kid was probaly 20 yards down the trail. Amazingly no one got hurt. The 13 year old on the side of the trail said he'd played hockey "his whole life" and never seen anyone hit that hard. Five minutes later an adult came through almost the same speed and barely in control.

It has happened to me! Only about 5' 10" too! I was on the far right seat and had my elbow on the armrest, leaning my head (near the temple) on my fist. Bar came down and...whaaaack! That left a bruise...

I wore Phat Luvs every day for the last two winters I skiied! but they weren't very fat, I think they're 80 at teh waist. Got a pretty good time in the Nastar course on them, too.

I have ridden a lift with skifishbum before but yeah that guy is a freak. I never seen it in person but apparently he smoke while skinning up the hill and kicking everyone elses asses. go figure?

Dubsman35 - I wouldn't bother with your arguments. Not worth the effort, and you won't change his mind. Probably not anyone else's either!

Leave the curmudgeons alone.

BTW -- Pow pow = ghey. Big time.

I like my neoprene face mask ... like maybe at Jay Peak when it's -10F and the wind is blowing 20-30 MPH.

Bringing the bar down quick is a "helmet test". I get kickbacks from the shop when the skiers with bumps on the back of their heads go in and buy new helmets.

I never wear my instructor parka at another mountain unless maybe if-- 1) I'm going to a PSIA event and 2) I'm leaving after a shift at my home mountain. I can pack for two days of skiing in my boot bag as long as I wear the parka/shell I'm going to ski in. Why have to pack a second bag just because I want to change my parka?

I used to smoke and could care less if other people smoke as long as I don't have to smell it. Please spend 20 minutes observing prevailing wind currents and move to an appropriate place at least 100 yards downwind before lighting up.

I agree about people who power wedge their kids down blacks when they could be on greens actually learning how to ski.
