I think it has been stated pretty good through this post that it kinda depends on the area you are skiing. I saw in this post that a level 4 skier should be able to ski solid blue. That wouldn't happen at Snowmass, because our blues are a bit on the steep side. A solid blue skier here would be a level 6. A level 4 here would be on greens pretty much. Although, if the level 4 was in ski school, by the end of the day we may try them on an easy blue. Again, that is here at Snowmass, and may be a totally different animal somewhere else.
It is true that PSIA has a standard. I see that changing soon with the great adventure of teaching direct parallel on short shaped skis which, IMHO, will be the norm in the next couple of years. But on the most part, ski schools have their own standards for the terrain which is available on their hill.-------Wigs
