TR: Hunter Mountain Tuesday 12/23/08

I have to say Hunter Rocked. I have seen better days but since it was only my second time out and my first time was on crappy man made snow/ice with limited trails open (12/17) it was great.

I love hunter when it gets the real thing.

I normally do not like Minya Konka or East Side Drive but I thought they were the best trails that day.

I normally ski Hellsgate a lot but since I arrived late for an afternoon of skiing it was pretty skied off and icy as was the cliff.

My first run was Belt Parkway to Way Out. Wayout was ok but bit a bit icy. The Belt was near perfect but it doesn't really do much for me.

I then skied a couple of runs of East Side and Minya Konka ,which I though were awesome, and back up the f lift.

When I came back up the F lift I saw they were closing Colonels Alternate. The Ski patroler was cool enough to say "one more". I had to say yes, so I took that to the belt and back to Base.

Came back up and skied Huega which still had great snow and virtually no skiers. I got back to F lift to find that they closed. I asked him what time they close that lift and he said 4:00. It was not quite four but he apparently needs a new watch so I booked down Madison Avenue and just missed the lift at the base.

Madison had an instructor giving GS lessons to a couple of kids and I got to ski the gates which were only the short single poles but about twice as many as their regular NASTAR. Pretty Cool. I would have made the lift if I did a downhill instead of a GS but I had my fair share for the day.

Its amazing how many more runs you get in during the week compared to the weekends.

I wish I would have gotten a few runs on Eisenhower but I assumed (I know Ass of U and Me) it would be like racers edge. But, by the time I heard otherwise it was too late.

It was my own fault for being a bit greedy though. I heard it was real good from some guys on the lift on my last run, but instead of going down Eisenhower after Huega I headed to F lift to go up again.

This is my first trip report so go easy on me!

East Side and Minya were hellish early in the day when all the jackasses were still there.
By the afternoon, when you were there, most of them were gone, and it was a great afternoon of skiing.
I think you described the day very well.

This was the worst run of the day IMO. All ice by 2:45 (when I skied it).

After 4 great days of skiing Thurs.- Monday, I skipped skiing Tuesday to help out in a ski shop so the owner could go ski with a visiting rep. I was thoroughly confused by skiking4's other post that it sucked, considering all I heard from friends and customer's was how great Tuesday was.

P.S. johnnysdg, That was me you met in the shop.

Yea, I remembered your screen name.

I see you guys after new years when I come in for my custom orthotic.

SkiKing, keep in mind that I skied one week earlier which was a better-than-not-skiing kind of day.

Compared to that day, Tuesday afternoon was like a day in the Alps.

Can't wait for the blackout period on my weekday pass to end!

That makes sense.

It was, I was skiing with my wife so I stayed on F lift and the east side where there was no wind and avoidable snowmaking. Opening of freshly blown Crossover made it a good day.

I guess I should have hit Crossover LOL I was too scared to do Hellgate with all the shitty snowmaking and Upper Crossover looked like it was thin cover with even more shitty snowmaking. But Hunter West was very nice with avoidable snowmaking if you stayed on the opposite sides of the snowmaking machines.
