Whitefish (12/25-12/29)

Me and a friend will be in Whitefish for Christmas. Stayin' and the Downtowner, and stoked to check out the ski hill and the town.

Any recommendations for a good place for Christmas dinner? And some fun things to do besides skiing/boarding? (We already signed up for some snowmobiling.)

I don't know what's open. I would assume that Cafe Kandahar at the mountain will be open, but possibly booked. Also, Grouse Mountain Resort has a restaurant, and they're pretty good (not my first choice, however). Also, way up the price scale, the Boat Club at the Lodge at Whitefish Lake will probably be open.

I just had my birthday dinner at the Whitefish Lake Restaurant at the golf course. We've never had a bad meal there and the ambiance is great. I don't know if they are open for Christmas or not.

Since you are staying downtown, though, and might want to walk (and none I have just mentioned are walkable), I'd give Tupelo Grill a call and see if they are open and have any unbooked tables. They're my second favorite restaurant in town. Cajun.

Other walkable restaurants: Buffalo Cafe and the Red Caboose are "moderate", but more like diner ambiance. Craggy Range is nice, but often frantic. Then there is Mackenze River Pizza, a very nice pizza place with good salads and beer as well. The Bull Dog Grill would not be my choice for Christmas, but is supposed to have good burgers. Then there's a new place called Latitude 48, that I've heard VERY MIXED reviews on. Their offering at the Showcase of the Chefs at the bigging of the month was no ad, undercooked ravioli.

There is dog sledding. There may also be some kind of horse drawn sleigh for dinner, but I haven't read anything about it lately.
