Salomon Czar vs Last years Gotama

Thread Starter
I was thinking about buying new skis this season, I'm looking at the Salomon Czar and or last year's Gotama. I'm considering last years Gotama cause I can save a few hundred bucks on last years New or slightly used gear.

Is there a big difference, is the rockered tip in the Czar going to make it that much better? I need to save money... but right now i'm still skiing on my Volkl AX3's and I want to go wider.

Get the used Goat then. Rocker works GREAT, but so does the Gotama. Going from the mid 70's to 105 will be a huge improvement in soft snow.

I'm one of the few that didn't really like the Czar when I demo'd in the spring last year. I know everyone seems to love it, but when I took it out, I really didn't care for it at all. I own the 08 Gotamas and love them for a wide range of conditions. I'd go with the Goats based on my personal preference. Why not save the $ - the Goats are a great ski (but they ski short - be aware of this when choosing length).

I also have owned a Gotama for the last two years and it is a very good all purpose wide ski. However, I skied the Czar @ a Salomon intro last January and it is a certainly a better deep snow ski. I would say that if you want a wide ski as a daily driver, get the Gotama. If you want a more focused ski for deep snow, the Czar is a better bet.

FWIW....I am replacing my Gotama this year with a Blizzi Argos which IMO is a better daily driver ski and closely comparable to the Goat in deep stuff.

ok, old teacher of mine used to say that no question is a dumb question - i am going to stick with that and ask:

what does it mean to ' ski short ' - am close to pulling the trigger on a pair of gotamas...

advise when you can.

thanks

I ski the Goats in a 183 length and they feel like a much shorter length. They like to turn and the amount of upturn in the tail means that the 183 feels significantly shorter than that. For example, I also have a Dynastar Legend 8000 in a 178 that feels like a much longer ski than the 183 Gotama. That's what I mean when I say that the Gotamas ski short.

thanks for the quick reply., that is what i thought you meant but just was not sure. as i said in previous post:

me. 48, 175, kirkwood, mammoth and a yearly trip to europe with family who live there. ski what i think is a lot (30 days / season) but to be honest i dont ski hard stuff much anymore. can and will if the feeling and partners are right but 80% of the time i am there to great long days on moderate blacks with my family and friends.

been pondering the gotamas with an marker AT set -up and think i have some holiday money to put towards them.

thanks again
