Shim in bindings?

Went to my bootfitter today to finish off work on my custom orthotics and love em (at least on dry land!).

One thing that confused me a bit was his suggestion that I put a shim under my bindings to get my knees more in line. He measured a few times and saw my right knee turning a bit inward. He then gave me the shims he believes I needed to get everything in alignment and so tomorrow I'm off to my local ski shop to have them put the shims in place.

Only because this is my first fitting of this nature, I was wondering is this is common or otherwise....my thought (aka hope) was that the custom insert would fix alignment issues
