Hey guys I'm Mike and I'm new to this forum and about to take a trip out west to Summit Couny this January. I'm debating buying new equipment. I bought skis and boots about 12 years ago when I was younger and barely used them. I'm a beginner and will ski blues but am not totally comfortable yet. I definitely don't want to keep my old straight skis, and will just rent curved ones. Everyone says how important boots are to skiing.

The boots I own are Rossignol R725. I wore them to Colorado last year a couple of days, they were ok. Yesterday I went to an independent ski shop here in Milwaukee and tried on a Salomon Mission 6 boot. The Salomon felt really comfortable but at $300, I'm wondering if it's worth buying new boots.

Has boot technology changed dramatically enough over the past 12 years to justify purchasing these boots? I want to get into skiing more, and they would last a while. At the same time I have these old boots that are barely broken in. Would I just be better off using rental boots than these old ones?
