What is the scoop on Whistler conditions right now?

The website is very evasive as to listing total terrain opened, which is a sign that things aren't going so well. I arrive in Whistler on the 20th of December, and i'm getting VERY concerned that terrain will be extremely limited. What exactly is open anyway?

Signs are pointing to much colder weather on the horizon beginning Thursday evening which is positive. Hopefully this is a sign that things are a changing.

The lift status page pretty much says what's open - you can probably safely assume that the runs from these lifts are accessible.

It's not been a good year so far, I'm hoping for better because I'm going up on the 23rd - 28th, too. I'm doing some day trips before that so if I get up before you fly here I'll let you know how it's going.

Wrong. You can safely assume that at least one run from each of these lifts is accessible. And Whistler's gondolas can download if the lower mountain is marginal. 13 out of 200 trails open doesn't sound too good to me.http://www.snocountry.com/snowclient/displayinfox.php?action=snowreport&skiarea=Whistle r/Blackcomb&permcode=604038&state=BC&from=statelist

There are a couple of independent sites from Whistler locals:

That said, Whistler's long term Christmas record is as good as anyone's among major resorts. There is a base in the alpine, so only modest storms may be needed to open quite a bit more. It's not like a long list of areas I could mention that have practically nothing yet.

This will give you a better idea

It ain't pretty - off piste is not really skiable, and the list of groomers above is uninspiring. No snow of significance in the forecast until the 21st or so, and that is too far away to count on at this point.

Wish I could be more encouraging.....

Thanks for the positive outlook Tony.

Whistler is supposed to get 15-20cm (6-8") today/tonight and 15-20cm more on Friday, at least in the alpine. Let's hope this holds true and we get a decent storm some time next week. Given what you have said, this could go a LONG way in opening up a lot of terrain.
