Head Edge+11 Ski Boot Line Up Fitting?

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a little bit of personal advice in regards to ski boots. I was looking at sizing for ski boots and it seems its all over the board.

I generally wear a size 11 US shoe (tennis/dress shoe), however to my surprise when I measure my feet. I got these results.

R Foot = 26.2 CM
L Foot = 25.5 CM

Now I know feet vary slightly in size, however with that data its seems that I should be wearing a different shoe size as well. So its a little bit perplexing from this point.

If I look at the charts I should get a 29 MONDO boot, because I wear a 11 US. However if I look at my actual foot length then I should be much smaller. If I have foot size of 26.2cm and 25.5, I should be wearing something like 27 MONDO, which for some reason seems way too small.

So do any of the experts here know how the Head Edge boots size? Do they size slightly bigger, slightly smaller, or very similar to that of US standard sizing system.

I don't have any expert boot fitters in the area, not much of a skiing town here in Cleveland, OH. I generally go a few times a year skiing I would say less than 15 times in a year. I generally prefer comfort so I can ski all day and I am at a intermediate level.

I rented Dalbello's MXR before at a size 11 US, and my toes touched the liner and fit snug but not too snug, so I am not sure if Head boots are the same way.

whilst i can't help you with the US standard sizing system i can confidently say that the shell of the edge is about a long as they come, they are grossly oversized in terms of the shell, BUT the liners are IMO very short and constricting considering the size of the shell..... based on the shell sizing and the measurements you give above you could probably get into a 24.5 but certainly would be bigger than 25.5 ....impossible to say without seeing your foot shape and the shell, feeling the end of the boot in a big size suggests there is something else going on, sitting back, or a large calf muscle levering you into the front of the boot

i think ou really do need to make the effort to get to a fitter at some point, others will be along who can offer you more help on US sizing and fitteres closest to you

Thanks for the info. Now that you mentioned it. I do have large calf muscles. I see how this could increase forward lean of and make be feel the end of the boot in a larger size.

As a general rule of thumb how much space in MM or CM do I need to have before my toes will touch the end of the shell, not that of the boot? Is it about 1-2CM for a intermediate recreational skier?

I will try to see a boot fitter once I get some more time to travel more.

Well my Head Edge 11+ arrived size 29 MONDO, needless to say that with shell fit there was a good 40-45mm of space near the heal. A terrible fit.

Lesson: NEVER EVER GO BY SHOE SIZE!!!

Tomorrow: Found a local boot fitter, will go visit the store to see what they have and return these boots I got which are clearly the wrong size.

In the FAQ at the top of the page, this chart seems most useful for evaluating size. Good luck with the return and new fit. Read the Garmont size as Mondo, and you pretty much have the expected results.

Thanks from the looks of it. I think I will need a 27 or smaller MONDO. Hopefully, the bootfitter will help tomorrow.

Well went to a boot fitter and came out with a new boot.

Nordica SportMachine 10

Mondo 26.5, fits great.

Did they shell check you????? still sounds big based on the sizes you gave and the fit of that boot

Well they rechecked sizing and I was coming in at about 26.5 in both feet while standing up. I didn't pick the boots up yet, they are still at the shop. Would you recommend going with a 26 MONDO or even a 25.5?

He shell fitted me for Nordica Beast 10 boots. Now that I think about it I dont think he did for the Sportmachine 10's, maybe he forgot? I will go maybe try on the 26CM (I think only the liner is smaller if I recall correctly) I or even the 25.5 Mondo then.

The boots felt snug, when I would stand the tips of my toes pressured the liner and when I leaned forward the tips of my toes barely touched the liner, otherwise than that it felt really planted, the heel didn't move more than a 1-2mm and it felt comfortable for about 30min I wore it.

Well when I go back to the shop to pick up the skis and boots. I'll try on some smaller sizes of this boot and see how they shell fit and fit over all.

Boots even when new need to be shell fit. However, Mondo sizing is generally fairly accurate and the conversion to U.S. is grossly wrong. You cannot assess boot size by trying on a new boot, finding it feels tight and then buying it. That said I think since you measure 25/26 you will end up in there somewhere. 27, 28 29 No no no.
