Alternatives to the MIA 183 Bros

Ok, so I have not decided to cancel my order with PMGear for 183 bros yet... They are claiming delivery by late December, which works. If it becomes late January or February however, I may start looking into other options.

Right now my short list of possibilities includes:

184 Movement Goliath Sluff. 134-99-118

186 Line Prophet 100. 134-100-125 (I have the Karhu version of this ski in a 172, but it is WAY too short. Would the 79 be better than the 86? I weigh about a buck sixty.

How about Moment skis? Maybe the 180 Tahoe 127-96-118 or the 182 M1 130-105-119

Anything Else?

Who's gonna be the first to tell me to get a Gotama?

If you're looking for something fat you can't beat SierraJim's deal on 2006-2007 Nordica Blowers.

The 186 Line prophet will measure the same if not shorter than the 183 Bro.

those 185 Enforcers are a hard deal to pass up though and pretty close to the bros in terms of performance but not quality.

yeah the newer gotamas = piece of crap at least that what my buddies skiing them found out. The buddas falling of isnt good, but purely cosmetic. The edges seperating from the bases is a real downer though.

The bros I have seen to never fall apart even when Jtrue skis his right though rocks.

thats a huge selling point to me on the bros.

I think that the 110 waist on those blowers might be overkill for me. I will be using this as an almost everyday east coast ski. I want something wide enough to float me when there is fresh snow, but it also needs to perform on hardpack, and be skiable in bumps and tight, bumped up trees. The Prophet 100 and BROS both do all of this very well, how do the blowers hold up?

IDK if bros are an every day east coast ski but...

If you got the 193 blowers that is a different ski from the 183 bros in terms of what it is going to give you. And you might still use them if conditions call for it. But if you get the 185 enforcers the bros would overlap and fill the same slot as those for sure. 185 blowers is maybe a bit closer call. Maybe better in tight trees. Everything I have read about the 185 blower people said they were sorry they only got the 185 and wanted the 193. But then again that is in UT.

If you like skiing a BIG ski on hardpack, the Blowers are great for skiing hardpack. A lot of people up here in Stowe do.

Have you skied the goliath sluff's?

I've been on a couple of the narrower movement skis, and they felt really solid.

Is there anyone who has been on the sluff's and the 183's that could give a comparison?

The Wailer 95 185 is in stock. That's why I mentioned it.

Hmm... can you point me to some reviews?
try www.dpsskis.com I don't really know of any reviews of the recent mold. You can try the search engine at TGR. SFB skied them yesterday. I'll tell you one thing, for the past couple of days, I have skied the DPS Wailer 105 178. It's a very solid ski. A bit too short for me. I would have preferred the 188. Sunday, it carved the hardpack pretty well, and today it was really nice in 3" new fluff. Very buttery in soft snow. There are plenty of reviews of the 105.

DP Pro + from Stockli. Enforcer from Nordica.
You can demo the Wailers in Stowe

A rep lives here, and iRide has demos too
post #18 of 20
The Stockli SS Pro is a few hundred bucks less than the DP+ and it's burlier, but it's a BIG 186cm.

Amplid Teddy Bare 183cm.
Kastle MX98 184cm.

If you want tough, get a Icelantic Nomad in 183cm, they are built in CO by NeverSummer, as durable a build as anything out there.

I have Blowers in both 185 and 193. Big, damp, really easy to ski. 185s are mounted on the line and the 193s are mounted 7mm back. The both rip the groomers, but the 185s are much friendlier in the trees and bumps.
A few people have mentioned that the odd tail shape can be kinda hooky, but i've never been bothered by it.
The only thing I regret about buying two pairs, is ending up with the really ugly topsheets. I wish i'd waited for six months before buying the 193s.

If you like the prophet 100/karhu you have get it in a longer length. You won't regret it. As far as durability is concerned, I think the Nordicas would do really well. I think they are made with the same construction as the Nordica race skis (don't remember where I read that).
