Heh, that one turned out okay. It's my son, and I enlarged a print of it for his room, to go with the action shot (that someone else took, of course) of him saving a PK in soccer last season.

Which also makes me realize, usually when I have my camera, I'm taking kid photos, which is probably why I don't post that many.

dookey...let's examine and consider the following to help me classify action/inaction

Yes, without a doubt, lunch shots at the Beav should be /burned:

Trash:

I do detect some "action" here albeit slight:

Cooking food at Belles Camp will someday qualify only when smell vision technology advances:

Pointing out and capturing your grub is necessary if later stolen...action low...value high. Middle ground this one:

Bklyn in background "locking down" qualifies as action while your boot "tap-off" does not [of course Betsy is motionless and should be ignored]. I think Bklyn carries this...yes action shot here:

Any activity that resembles what a Bear does in the woods must be considered a real action photo especially when witnessed first hand by a few friends:

Thankful prayers ending a good day aside; this photo sucks:

...I have more to review and classify when you're ready as I'm in the process of cleaning up my drive and various hosting sites .

noice!

i have been laughing non-stop, especially at the bear ishiting in the woods shot.

i think i put plenty of action in those non-action shots (tapping boot, bending over to poop, pointing...i believe all of those are verbs, right, hence action!)

before you delete 'em, send 'em to me and I'll put 'em in the Dookey In (or is it Un) Action album that I'm amassing.

those photos also bring a tear to my eyes as I am saddened that I have to sell those pants, though. I destroyed the gold jacket at the Beav in the trees and now I don't have anything that matches those pants!

I am a writer, after all (using the term "writer" very gingerly, though).

I love Cirque's comment on one of those threads "Dookey, buy a camera."

Perhaps this year I'll roll with a photog to document my adventures, thus have pix to accompany my colorful commentary.

Great! I look forward to The Adventures of Dookey with much anticipation.

Dookey, point is, I love your Trip reports because you have a talent for writing.

Let me share an example of an action shot from one of my TR's in comparison to one you posted.
Similar action shots, but one showing a teensy weensy bit more action

BTW, On TGR a Pot calling the Kettle black would be told to STFU. We've been a teensy weensy bit more polite. (I know, you don't like the term teensy weensy)
I think we need a new rule prohibiting the term "Teensy Weensy" to be used on this site.

Its just a good thing she was talking about you Dookey

damn, i think it's time for a "Dookey Steeze Hi-Jack" thread to be broken off from this one...

or not.

it's been said a million times before, but we really need some snow in Tahoe (more snow = less post counting).

Anyway, in an attempt to get things back on track, I think a good TR needs to provide not only stoke, but some sort of emotional connection (which, if handled properly, is often accomplished via the stoke).

I'm a fan of the storytelling aspect, you know an intro, main body, conclusion with a few plot twists thrown in for good measure.

of course the old classic "We came, we saw, we kicked a$$" layout never fails to produce solid results.

i think a mixture of pix, both action and inaction is good as it breaks things up (i.e. look at the successful ski pron, the good ones usually break up the gratuitous skiing with moments of reflection from the skiers).

bottomline is there needs to be a balance of serious and goofy, action and inaction, words and pix.
I don't post TR's anymore. Mainly because good action shots are ignored and standing around pictures are ohhhh and ahhhh. What a joke.

dookey..
here are some more I’m working through as I think I’ve got the process nailed down now. Let me know if I’m classifying action/inaction correctly as it might also help to put the real ohhhh and ahhhh back into it for our friend slider..

Stylized capture of dookey ski pant = Funky 70’s action :

Demonstrated in my earlier post, any “table” shots of lunch or dinner represent inaction and should be immediately vaporized:

Ok, so while I just confirmed any picture associated with lunch/dinner even sans table qualifies as boring inaction…

...my hand on Bklyn's thigh definitely amps the action [for me at least] and therefore is saved forever as an action shot:

Oh hell yes ACTION!:

Working your goggle in that yellow coat serves up a plateful of boring inactivity...but [and this is important feature of the picture] there are straw shades open during a party. An easy action call with this one. Yes, very exciting action:

Oh, an important re-classification of note with this prior one:

After careful inspection and knowing my wife pretty well, Betsy appears to have a high stoke level here. Therefore default classification using rule: High Stoke = Good Action

I think I've got the hang of this now as I think I did really well. I've learned that you've gotta look deeper with these shots as you consider their TR worthiness

Pretty good video -- could have used some more action shots, tho.. don't people surf down there?

Oh yeah, and more dookey and less of that other guy -- what's that musician's post count anyway?

Lucky Butt stoke = exemption from any future admonishments or and/or double secret probations as well as entitles you to one "get out of ban" free card.

However it must be pointed out in doing so poor Wannabe's day was ruined spending all that time taking those pictures. Perhaps we can start a campaign to purchase a new lift ticket for Wannabe with a stipulation he must act like a serious skier and not waste any further time taking photos.

Checked it out…King contribution that.

Not sure I get it.

Read the entire thread and add a dash of sarcasm…it should ring clear otherwise give me a PM for the cliff notes version as I hate the sound of screeching breaks and the smell of burning tire rubber within a thread

<sound of letting off the brakes, and full throttle>

Do you ever take a picture that doesn't have a female in it??????????????????????

Good catch Ullr…of course not! There is nothing better than being surrounded by women who can out ski the majority of guys on this forum. That ‘Ski like a girl’ steeze from Bears like Tsavo, Bklyn and Betsy has a magnetic stoke…pics follow naturally

...oh..and dookey steeze is an added bonus

C'mon now Dookey, don't do it!! NOTHING matches these pants anyway! (And as Mrs SS keeps telling me, clothes don't need to match anymore, they just need to go!)

I was Google searching for a pic of A Basin's parking lot and accidentally found this pic (not sure if that is A basin or not?). Kinda funny though when you recognize people when looking for something else. Anyway some additional non-active evidence...

Okay, that made me laugh. I particularly like the stroller.

^^
1. Bklyn is smiling. Last time I checked, smiling was a verb and the act of smiling was just that, an act, as in action.

2. I am throwing up heavy metal devil horns. Again throwing is a verb and the act of throwing heavy metal devil horns provides the necessary action needed to legitimize this photo.

3. The presence of the baby stroller proves that action had been going on prior to the picture, since last time I checked baby making was indeed an action sport.

4. As you can plainly see, I'm in the process of eating, thus my digestive tract was working, which is a form of action.

Honestly, the only inactive thing I am doing is sitting, but I squirm a lot, so even then I was being active.

And yes, this is A-Basin.
BTW I agree with Bushwhacker and Bob. It's not really that hard or a time waster to snap shots at the appropriate times. The key is to have a user friendly camera (or know how to use the one you have), have it easily accessible and most of all be able to spot photo opps and act on them quickly. Oh and to actually remember that you have the camera in your pocket. I get too caught up in skiing sometimes and just plain forget.

^I was never refutting that.

I'm just not a fan of the "Hey, let's pose in front of the gondola" and "Hey let's pose at the top of the lift" and "hey, let's pose in the bar" type of photos where people make you stop to take a "candid" shot.

That A-Basin shot was basically me and Bklyn enjoying lunch and somebody (I believe DonDenver) strolled by and shouted "Hey Dookey and Bklyn!", we turned around and "snap" went the shutter. There was no posing, no "hey, why don't you guys pose for this what is sure to be excellent picture of you standing around" styled set-up.

I'm cool with static, in-action pix, if they are spontaneous and capture the people in a natural state of fluxuation.

I am not a fan of what many feel is the obligatory Gondola/Lift/Top-of-the-Hill/bar/lodge standing around photo. That does about as much for me as a Sears holiday portrait.

Pictures should capture the fun of the moment, convey the energy and excitement you were having on the slopes. Shots of folks standing at the top of the run or in the bar don't really convey that sense of excitement. Again, it's like those old slides of you aunt and uncle standing in front of Stonehenge (or wherever)...it doesn't really tell you anything about the trip or the feelings they were having. It just shows you they were there. Show me WHY you were there!
