Conditions at Aspen Look'n' GOOD

I watched the women's GS at Aspen today on what looked to be pretty good early season conditions at Aspen Mountain. What do the natives report?

We have been getting snow for about three days. We need more, but we're in the game now. Today, we had some wind so couldn't get up high.

We're looking at more snow tonight, and snow showers for a week. I'm feeling pretty rosy.

Also, the new base area at Snowmass is really starting to work.

Oops, I misspoke. Make that 18 inches!!!!

It was a full 18 inches at Snowmass. All light and beautiful. One more storm and we're cookin'. And looks like it's on the way.

The smile meter was off the charts yesterday.

Today's report: 17" in the past 48 hours. That's 41" in the past seven days. More in the forecast!
Quote:
Tuesday and Wednesday -//> Tuesday and Wednesday do not look as cold, and low pressure drops further south into California. This leaves Colorado less affected by the storm, with more isolated snow showers Tuesday into Wednesday. Once the low cracks loose from southern California and begins to move east, we expect that heavy snow will hit southwest Colorado sometime Wednesday into Thursday, with light to moderate snow across northern Colorado (and the I-70 resorts of Aspen to Winter Park). When we say moderate we generally mean less than 8 inches of snowfall.

Add four more overnight to the pile of snow building for ESA!!!!
We are supposed to be in Summit county during the week of ESA, for our family vacation. I'm really tempted to let Mr TC hang with his buddies while I head to Aspen Snowmass for ESA..........thinking really hard!

Think hard, but not too long, please. The deadline on our lodging reservation is TODAY.

Oh, and four more inches overnight...!

Only four feet in the last seven days. What a rip off. But there's another foot predicted for Monday--just to ease the pain.

I think you did.............Are you saying that Aspen has a ton of snow?
I don't know. I couldn't see the snow for the powder in my face.
What a sick day here today!!!!!! You guys will have a blast when you're here
post #20 of 38
I wish I was going. Sounds great.
We've had 90 inches of snowfall in December. If we get this next storm today, it may be a record for December.

(The bases, of course, are less deep because in the places they measure, the snow settles under it's own weight.)

Damn near everything is open--including Highlands Bowl--and the skiing is, as skierhj says, SICK!

I did ESA Stowe, am registered for ESA Big Sky. It would be a hoot to do Aspen Snowmass and have all three under my belt, eh?

DP, I'll keep you posted. I have two major hurdles to jump at work, otherwise, I'd have to be back on my original itinerary.
I'd really love to do this one tho!

And we'd love to have you here.
