Ms. Flight Attendant, which door do I use?

On Monday, I did a little trip out-and-back to San Francisco. When the plane pulled up to the gate, since I was seated near the front, I saw the right-hand front door of the 767 whoosh open about the time the captain hit the brakes...

...the slide was still activated...

My pictures from inside the plane were rushed and didn't turn out, but here's what it looked like from inside the concourse:

Damn good thing that didn't happen at 30,000 feet!
One more good reason to pay attention when they ``suggest'' keeping your seatbelt fastened at all times.

Steve,

Was the slide a blue, black or double black?

'Twas a pretty short ride, but a bit steep in sections... especially when flexed by a previous user...

But more importantly, how was the coverage for early season?

whoa! Any explanation for what happened, or just a, "Move along, folks, nothing to see here..."?

Well, I was in seat 2D on this 767, so I saw the whole thing. As the flight attendant got up and headed to the door, it suddenly flew open. I didn't realize at the time that no one had done that; it did it itself! Somehow, the latch let loose as the plane stopped at the gate.

When I got on my next flight this Monday (a week later) on another 767, I mentioned it to one of the flight attendants. She had also taken a picture of it, and mentioned that United sent out emails about it. They are looking at the packing of the slide, but I think it was a latch issue.

I'm just glad it didn't happen at 37,000 feet, although the pressure in the cabin would likely make that very unlikely.

...I'll be on another 767 this Friday morning, but, if all goes according to plan, it will be a 3-class with the new International seats and in-seat entertainment. Last time I flew in one of those, I sat backwards to see what it was like. This time, I'm booked into 6H, facing forward.

I hope it works out. Last time I was on a 3-class 767, they swapped planes at the last minute back to the old configuration. Bummer! From the best seats to the worst in a blink of an eye...
