Mt. Bohemia just cold called me with a recording!

I'm a huge fan of Mt. Boho. I love the terrain I love the way they're managing it. I love the yurts, I love the cabins, shoot, they even have winter camping. I've been a season pass holder for the last three years. Their marketing on the other hand leaves a bit to be desired.

I don't know how many videos they've made but I've seen a few. They've made me chuckle but is the image of the ski patrol beating and kicking a newb for having the gall to buy a ticket really what you want to convey to the public? Well maybe it is, that doesn't actually upset me too much.

Yesterday when I picked up my phone it was one of those infernal recordings on the other end. I wish I had hung up a bit quicker before I heard the female voice telling me that Mt. Boho is selling season passes in a week or two.

I don't know how many of you agree with me, but I hate telemarketing. I never respond positively to a telemarketer, even if I feel the offer might be good. In fact, I try not to do business with companies that use telemarketing.

Now I just don't know what to do. I want to continue to support Mt. Boho but damn, I'm not sure if I can now. Maybe I'll give 'em another chance. Next year.

Update: I just learned that the National Do Not Call Registry is once again in effect. I just re-registered here.

Have you tried emailing or calling someone there and expressing your concerns? I bet if enough people complained they'd knock it off.

...maybe?

I don't like them either and most of the time I just hang-up but sometimes I get even. I'd love to talk with you but I'm busy at the moment. Could I get your home number and call you later tonight.

Hmm, that's probably a much better idea than spouting off about it here

Yeah, that's one of my faves too

Doesn't work with a recording though.

It's no wonder I don't get any takers.

I hate telemarkers as well. Sadly, it seems that there are more and more of them at Bohemia every winter. I suggest a boycott.

When you signed the season pass agreement, you probably accepted as terms of the agreement, that they could call you for marketing purposes.

They don't even have to put anything like that in their season pass agreement. Regarding the Do Not Call Registry, straight from the FTC's website:

"A company may call you for 18 months after you make a purchase or three months after you submit an inquiry or application;"

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...ts/alt136.shtm

By buying a season last year, you gave them permission to call you for the next year and a half.

While this may be true, it doesn't make robocalling your customers any less stupid.

I think pretty much everyone does. I worked briefly as a telemarketer (like, for a weekend) and affirmed this viewpoint.

I just hope the GOP keeps buying robocalls in upcoming elections. Works grrreat.

I don't pick up any calls I don't know. So, if the number isn't showing, the call goes to voice mail.

If it's anything important, the caller would have left a message. (I do believe robocalls are not allowed to leave VM? -- because I never have any)

But if they have the gall to show the number? Just put your phone in an auto-dialer and keep on calling (your own version of robocall). Better yet, ask a few friend of your to do the same, preferrably in the middle of the night. That'll jam that phone line dead!

Yeah, that's what I told MB. I'd like to see them do well. That's the wrong road to go down.

Get their fax number. Open War and Peace. Send to fax. Remember to spoof your phonenumber, and remember to add a note about how no one likes robocalls but everyone loves Tolstoy.

Pleeeeeeease they are not the only ones using robo calls but I agree they are annoying as all hell.

I hate when the democrats call my house with robo calls for it doesn't allow me to retort their claims.

Just got this email from MB:

sorry about the call. everyone has different feelings about phone updates . some customers want us to call them when we get a storm others dont want to be called at all. we appreciate your comments and would be glad to take you off of our phone list. please let us know what your phone number is and we will get rid of it

please understand that some of our customers ask us to remind them every year by phone that we are having a season pass sale. so as a company we are trying to keep people informed of what is going on and at the same time understand how some people hate phone calls. So our strategy has always been to take off the ones who dont want a phone call or a mailer from our list. hope you understand and please send us your phone number so we can eraase you from the list
also feel free to call us at 231 420 xxxx
thanls for your time and we are sorry again for the inconvience

That's not a good enough apology. I still think you should boycott Bohemia. In fact, you should start a massive internet campaign and get a whole bunch of other guys to boycott as well. This will not stand! Bohemia has to be taught a lesson.

That's lame. Anyone who wishes to be "reminded" should add their name to a reminder list, rather than all past pass holders to be cold-called by a stupid robot!

It should be designed as an opt-in, instead of an opt-put. Unless, they really want you to opt out of buying a pass at all!

I think everybody should just boycott skiing this year. That'd teach those scumbags. It would also eliminate a lot of confusion.
