Even with a Salomon binding with the toe cranked all the was up so the rocker had enough room, the Vibram gave too much friction to release properly.
I had a race coach who used them on race days standing around, and at the instructions of Nordica (they were Nordica AT boots with Marker bindings) we ground the Vibram sole down flat, and they still didn't release properly, the soft Vibram conformed around the sliding toe and hung up on the fixed part below the slide. He carefully skied to the course and down, but that was it.
I also patrolled with a Ski Patroller from Slovakia who was search and rescue there, and his normal set-up was unmodified AT boots and Marker binding. I scolded him, but he was young, had great balance, "strong like bull" and I doubt if he ever fell, so that setup worked for him.
