CALLING ALL TROLLS: The season is on! - Page 2

What were you wearing? I was the only Patroller in the morning( 5'5" 135lbs) wearing a patrol vest, black under-jacket, black Isis pant. Although I wish that I had worn my coaches pants because it was a little chilly at 9:00am. I had to leave at noon. My boots are red and white Nordica speed machines, Nordica Firefox skis, boeri helmet. Look me up Bumpfreaq knows me. And Bumfreaq the snow is much improved from Thursday and Friday conditions. It looks like they have concentrated a lot of snow on Canyon. They need a deeper base there because the High school teams and our Thunderboltz kids, just hammer that hill. I know they improved the amount of snow that they can blow in an hour. The guns are using something like 5500 gallons per minute, I think last year it was only 3800. They have really done a lot of work on improving their ability to put snow on the hill and extend the season for customers. We opened a full week and a half earlier than we did last year.

But guess what? I am jealous you have about 98% more snow than we do. We are up to 3 or 4 in. so far and nothing in the forecast. Ugh

SO - Think Michigan
Pete, we have our little 400ish ft vert and we are blessed!

Pete, I'm confused. You've actually been to Detroit, yet you choose to live in Idaho

I was thinking of heading that way to for a chance at some rare midwest powder this weekend.
Sorry I'm late!! MM opened on Saturday. I skied Saturday and Sunday.... Great conditions, but only one run. We've got a lot of natural snow, but If you've every hiked Marquette Mountain in the summer, you would know there are LOTS of rocks! I'm talking rocks the size of a human head and larger. And Jagged. It takes a bunch of snow to open.

Most of the west side should be open by Thanksgiving day, and I'd bet on 100% before Christmas.

The reason you didn't see any mountains is that there aren't any. But there are hills big enough to ski on. And lots and lots of lake effect snow. I wouldn't encourage anyone to travel here to ski, but we have fun on our little hills.

Of course, by following the east coast of the lower peninsula along Lake Huron you travelled the flattest part of the state. The hills are on the other side of the state along Lake Michigan, or in the western UP (which is geologically quite distinct from the lower peninsula).

If you wander through troll-land again and it's winter, bring your boots. (c:
