Returning from Fernie, I got "crucified" by my students because of someone I asked to sub for one of my Pilates based classes. This woman teaches what is called "the original' technique. Their credo is that the method should be done EXACTLY as it was done in the 1920s! They boast that their instructors have to do a 500 hour apprenticeship before being allowed to teach. Prior to being allowed into the program, they need to take 75 private lessons with an "original Pilates" instructor. They are then allowed into the 2 year training program.
According to my students, she taught like an amateur!
I have finally been freed from a reign of terror , brought about by our fromer assistant group exercise director. This woman was extremely knowledgable. MS in exercise physiology, etc. But a micro manager. If you did something in your class that was unique, and members liked, you would be asked not to do it, because "we all need to teach the same thing".
For awhile, no one would fire her because of her high qualifications. She eventually dug her own grave. At a managers meeting, when it was mentioned that members and instructors were taking issue with her people skills, she said,
"Don't worry, I can work with the bitches!"
Whether someone is an instuctor or a director, no one should be allowed to micro manage the learning process, no matter how well educated they are!
