What's the best time to sell skis on ebay?

So what's the consensus as to the best time to sell.
My local shop says that their sales pick up after Veteran's Day, but I am thinking of waiting until after Thanksgiving.
I'd appreciate any thoughts based on experience.

If you put your skis up now just give them a couple weeks bidding period and set your reserve accordingly. Depends if you want to get the most value for them or if you are looking for the quick cash to put into new gear for yourself.

Now. I start my offers on Saturday eve and end on Thursday eve. November, just as the resorts open, is the best, IMHO.

Conversely, when is the best time to get a deal on some skis but still use them this season. I want to pick up a pair of powder skis before my Feb. trip to Utah. When do prices start to drop; after the holidays?

For '08 skis, you have limited selection already, but it only gets worse the longer you wait. I can ship my undrilled 191 Scott P4 (108 mm underfoot, in same category as the Gotama) for $375. This is the same ski (other than topsheet graphics) that Backcountry is selling for $724.

'The '09 will likley get marked down, but I doubt you will do better than that by Feb.

Should have bought them this summer.

Now, get what you can.

I just picked up a pair of Nordica's that I haven't seen any lower anywhere else. ('08 Afterburners). Definately get what you can now! There are still some great deals on '08 models, you just need to shop around a little bit.

To Sell - as soon as you can get around to it.
To Buy - NOW, but I'm talking about '07 stuff, lightly used, with bindings for about $200. I know a lot of folks want latest and greatest and that's fine but I just don't buy the idea that skis, cars, golf clubs, boats etc. change that much in two years and once they are a year past their original sale date they are dirt cheap.

how about the whole theory of what day of the week and time of day?

I would agree - "now" is a good time to sell ski stuff. Mine sold in like a few days recently ...

Later is definitely better. The earliest I've seen serious sales was MLK Day 2006, when I picked up '06 Phat Luvs for my wife for $275. The best deals usually come after Presidents' Week, though. (Case in point: early last March, when I picked up another pair of skis for my wife -- '07 Dynastar Exclusive Legend Powder demos with NX12 bindings from Evogear for $140, shipped.)

Definitely sell em by Christmas. When before doesn't really make a difference. If you're buying then just hunt through the auctions and you can always find a deal. The hard thing is you can't be too picky if you take that route.
I wrote an eBay selling guide for our bike listing website. Many of the tricks are applicable for skis if you want to check it out.

I've listed some tricks including what day of the week and time of day etc.
Good luck.
