Before the Teneighty's came out, there really wasn't a dedicated freeski in the Salomon lineup. Most people didn't even know what 'freeskiing' was back then as it was a term that really wasn't around yet. Most freestylers/freeskiers/mogul skiers who were skiing Salomon at that time were still skiing on their mogul ski (the SuperForce9 3S).
Pocket Rocket's didn't come out until a year or two after the 1080 was released. I guess the only other options within the Salomon lineup were the X-Scream Series and perhaps the Mountain X...I'm not sure when the Supermountains came out, but they may have pre-dated the 1080, can't recall.Edit
: This topic piqued my curiosity and took me to the library...er I mean my bookshelf...where I have a bunch of old Powder magazines. I have the 1997 Powder Buyer's Guide and according to this there was no X-Scream series yet, or Mountain X, or Supermountain. The 1080 was a limited release during the winter of '97-'98, so prior to that there really wasn't a freeski. The buyers guide only lists the SuperForce mogul ski and the Prolink Equipe 2S as it's "long-radius all-mountain ski" -- I like the term "Freeski" much better than "long-radius all-mountain ski"
