Philpug - Da Man in Da Middle

I had a great gear weekend thanks to Phil. We are both Philly guys and he's now associated with Wicks Ski Shop. He posted a gear sale on a pair of Nordica Speedmachine 14 boots in my size, so we met up at the shop and I bought the boots.

You can't be with him more that 30 seconds until the conversation turns to skis and he asked about my quiver. I had 5 pairs and wanted to reduce due to overlap. His shop had a consignment sale this past weekend, so, we met on Friday and he took 3 pairs.
182 Dynastar Intuitives
165 Head Supershapes (These were Evan Silver's)
175 Atomic RX 11.20

He priced them at a point that he thought was fair: I thought he overpriced them. They all sold!

So now I really have a problem - Phil knows the I need at least one new pair and cash to play with, and, as I said, you can't talk to him without feeling his enthusiasim for new gear.

Thanks Phil - we'll get something done!

TC,
I'm taking the cash option but that means I pay a 20% commission. Seems reasonable and I get to drool over new gear!

Hi David,
Phil, Finndog and I return to Jackson for a week on 1/17/08. If you ski real slow, we'll let you join us for a run or so.

Beer in the Moose on me?

I did price them in line with other skis that we had. All three pair sold right away, very well I could have gotten another $25+ per pair, because we were well picked over the second day. I am a firm believer that your first profit is your best profit and to take the money. For our swap, as long as skis were under $300.00 they sold. As far as boots, they needed to be under 100.00 and even then, a lot of good boots didn't sell. Forget good clothing, I had an eVent SOS jacket for 59.00 that didn't sell, but a knock off SOS for $39.00 that did.

With the gear, there were many cases that we would tell someone not to buy something, we would walk away then se the person with that same item going up to pay for it. Some people you cannot protect from themselves.

I am glad I was able to help Mike out both with the purchase and help him move some nice gear.

Wick's? Man I feel like a fool for never even hearing of this place. I think I may have to take a trip down there one of these days.

Actually talked about a winter Swap, maybe the second week in January. Too late to do it this year, but maybe for next.

I <3 Wick's! Although, sadness, no kittens there this year when I dropped off my skis at the swap.

Last year I bought a pair of skis off SAC that were too long, they got me more than what I paid for them, SWEET! This year they sold my old beginner skis and boots. The snowboard boots didn't sell, but that's ok.

Big recs for that shop... the folks are nice, knowledgeable, and I never once got that 'you're just a girl' vibe like I've gotten at other area ski shops.

Kimmy,

I am the one that you dropped your skis off with. They will have a good home.

Oh! Well it was very nice to almost meet you!

I have been in Jackson for almost 20 years... So that was a long time ago. My family was very active in the club in the late seventys and eighties. I'm pretty sure that my dad was comodore for a few years. We used to do a lot of kayaking as well as skiing and some of the people I remember best are the Henk family. Bob Henk Sr was really helpful in getting me out boating in WV at a very young age. It was a real tragedy when he was killed on the Yough. I always loved going to the lodge near Mt. Snow. I hope they still have it, as it made skiing a lot more attainable for my family and it was fun. I would love to take some runs with you guys when you come. I promise to not ski crazy. It will be fun. I think that last year I had beers with you guys at the brewpub, but didn't ski with you.

TPJ,

We had the show last night, I would say everyone that attended were in the club 20 years ago . Yes, they still have the house by Mount Snow.
