Accomodation and work in Whistler, BC

Thread Starter
Hey all,

I'm planning to move to Whistler in late January or beginning of February till the end of the season 2009 with a friend, both of us 22 years old.

my initial plan was to just move out there, and then find accomodation and jobs once i actually get there. i talked to a friend who said this was possible, however the more ive been reading online, the more unlikely this seems. only adding to the difficulty of finding work is that i wont have a visa! only a tourist visa. is my initial plan even realistic?

any comments/suggestions?

You want to ski and work in Whistler? How about working and skiing for free in Whistler? You pretty much only have to do 2 things:

First, you NEED your Visa if you want to work in another country, then take a look at the link below and choose the job(s) that you can do or are qualified to do, then apply for the job(s).

http://www.intrawest.com/employment/index.htm They welcome anyone to apply, as long as you have your Visa. They can provide you with all you need: Work/money, an employee residence, and free skiing.

If you don't have your Visa....Well I guess you can bring as much cash with you as you can, stay in a Hostel, and hope to find under-the-table work. You could quite possibly find yourself homeless, hungry and trying to find a free way home by doing this though. It's up to you.

The season is well underway in January/February and it will be difficult to find work. However, there is a rather high turnover of employees so it's not impossible to find work. The hospitality industry will be your best bet.

As for accomodation, that'll be much harder. Rent is high and the wages are low. There is limited staff housing with priority going to full time staff. When i was a part time instructor back in '97 I had to crash at my coworkers every weekend. There were 9 people living in the house and I had the couch.

If you have not secured housing in Whistler by this time of the year you are screwed.

Look elsewhere.
