Did manage to get a picture of this fopar but I'm sure I could dig up the X-ray if required
Skiing on a pretty horrible day in Victoria Australia (Mt Hotham) - crowded, poor conditions, fog like pea soup... you get the picture. The buddy I was skiing with decided we should hit a bar (it was 11.30am) and start some serious drinking which went on until 4.30pm! At this point we decided to "ski" home on the narrow strip of snow next to the road... not a good idea when 8 parts full! I ended up over the edge covered and spent the next 10 minutes trying to extract myself from the tree that stopped my slide and scaling back up the muddy
slope I'd gone down. Again, no pictures exist of this little cross country excursion
Now if this wasn't embarrassing enough, after getting back to the unit and tidying up (removing several pounds of mud from my ski clothing) and a shower the decision was made to go to dinner that night. We needed to catch a bus to the restaurant so we wandered off to the bus stop on the main road. The road was covered in snow & ice and deep wheel ruts were everywhere (as it turned out, it had dumped whilst we pickled ourselves at the bar). Crossing the road to the bus stop, I slipped on some ice and ended up on my rump with my left leg straddling one of the wheel ruts. My friend (a.k.a. drinking buddy) managed to hit the same piece of ice and crashed in the deck right on top of my outstretched leg. Okay, it hurt somewhat but the anaesthetic I'd administered orally
earlier that day was still working so I got up and tried to walk. Bad idea... he'd managed to snap my leg right above the ankle with his ass! That put a dampener on the evening but it was something I've never managed to live down. Go on a week-long skiing trip with five guys and end up in plaster on the second as a result of a simply slip on some ice. I still get ribbed about this over 10 years after the event.
On a side note: calling up the ex after sucking on a morphine pipe that the ambulance driver gave me for the pain was an interesting experience though
