Gotamaesque but cheaper -- Help!!

I am looking for a ski to bring to the mountains for my yearly trip or two. I am an aggressive skier from the midwest that likes to ski what is now being termed side country. I like it steep and powdery (prefer it unbroken, but do not mind leftovers) and do not mind a short hike or climb. (Skied Baldy Chute at Alta last March) I do spend some time on the groomed when skiing with my buddies.

I an now using Volkl Explosives at 95mm waist, 180something cm length and like them. But am now thinking a little fatter.

It seems that the Gotama would be the right ski, however being it is so popular even used ones are kind of spendy (Minnesota term).

Bottom line -- could anyone suggest a ski similar to the Gotama but that is cheaper (espelcially used ones) ooorrr one that you might think I would lke better.
Thanks

Fischer Watea 101, a 2 year model should be affordable.

If you like the feel of the Explosiv, Katanas might be in order. It's sort of a fat Mantra and the Mantra was the successor to the Explosiv. They're not super cheap, but available for less than Gotamas.

gotama is a med to soft, Explosive is med to stiff. Just saying

for stiffer (like the explosive) and older skis (cheap)

powder ride, 104mm waist, med to stiff, (like the explosive)

heli star/ deep powder (115 waist, med/stiff, as well)

not cheap, but similar dynastar pros, or XXL

the skis that others have suggested are GREAT powder skis, it is rare to find a med/stiff powder skis.

Got both. The newer gen Goats are about as stiff as a CMH Explosive. Just saying.

Thanks all for the advise. It is only through reading this form that a midwesterner like me can get a feel for the variety of ski and ski characteristics that can be used in the mountains.

I like my Exploders, and they have done me well, but would like to add a ski with somewhat different characteristics.

That is why I am tending toward a Gotama like ski for both the extra width and the little extra "softerness" they posess.

Any more thoughts.
