If you had to ski only ungroomed...

what skis would you choose?
Just curious.

Had to? Only one ski in my quiver is best suited to groomers

180ish Fischer Watea 78 or 84 for bumps, trees and glades

Off piste is sooo much more fun than boring groomers, I rarely bother with them any more. And many of the ski areas in New Zealand do not have any groomed runs at all so I spend 95% of my time off piste. For general use I have Obsethed but for powder days I use Hellbents.

That's be dependent on where I was skiing this ungroomed... Care to throw out some parameters?

I would start my thinking @ maybe 85-95mm. Certain conditions and regions might cause me to think wider. Specific models would depend, depend, depend.

Not nearly enough info to go beyond that.

Do you mean backcountry touring or ungroomed at a resort? One ski to do it all at a resort besides groomers I'd choose Armada ANT 191cm (107 waist) or something with similar dims/flex at a place with moderate snowfall (~20-30feet per year) and Dyanstar XXL 194cm at a place with more snow. The ANTs can get through bumps although you waist energy on them, everything else is golden (I just happen to ski them haha).

187 dynstar XXL, if I am not having fun that day on that ski its ok to take a day off.

By ungroomed I mean really ungroomed and even untracked... something like backcountry/cat/heli skiing. =)

You would be one very lucky son of a gun!

Probably Dynastar LPs, but I'm only going on stats, or maybe the new Kästle MX98. It would have to handle DH speeds and not be too bad in powder. (almost anything is better than my previous deep powder ski)

I'll change my choice to Watea 101 for those parameters.
