Gotama size question?

Just bought some 09 Gotama's in 176
I'm 5'-6", 186 LB, male, 52 Years old.
I'm in the Pacific N.W.
We get in all; lots of trees, crud, pow, and Cascade concrete
Think the 176's are a good size for me?
There still in the plastic so I could probably talk the shop in to the 183'S.

Daniel, this is a commonly asked question about these skis. I have a pair of 183's that actually measured about 179 cm. Your skis actual lenght will probably be about 172 cm. As you know these skis have twin-tips so you will lose several more cm in running lenth due to the turned up rear-tip. Therefore they will ski more like a 168 cm ski. For a man of your size this is way to short for a powder-oriented ski. Go with the 183's and consider the 190's.

First, Welcometo Epic, a great site nice to have you here. Let us know how you like your skis during the year.
Can't really speak for you BUT:

I am 5'11, 192 ,66yrs and have 183's and they are plenty quick in the trees which I ski a lot. I was going to get gthe 176's also and then laid them on the floor in the shop and realized how short they were. Got the 183's and they are fine. Where do you ski? A lot of posters here say they ski their goats everywhere and they're their main ski. I don't bring them out unless there is at least 6 inches of powder or I am definitely going to be in BC, trees all day in wierd snow. Like my Afterburners otherwise.

I ski Crystal Mountain Washington. Lots of trees and fairly tight.
I'll ski my Outlaws on non pow days.
I ski a lot of back country. Thanks for the advise.

The 176 is the one I got for my daughter as her pow ski. She's 5'5'',
120 lbs. The 176 measure 172 straight, the 183 are 179 as mentioned.

Thing is, your height is perfect for the 176 but weightwise the 183 would be the way to go especially when charging. If you still ski more aggro then go 183 and be ready to work more in the trees, else better stick to the 176. Also be aware that the flex on the goats stiffens up the longer you go so the extra length does not translate to exactly the same amount of added floatation in pow. In wet concrete the added length isn't that much of a bonus anyway.

Agree with previous posters - 183 will be better for you. They do ski short.

If you are advanced or above, ski at any speed, swap them for 183's. I'm 165, my 183's rock in tight places, even big bumps, groomed, and fresh pow, kill most crud, but still not my first choice for stiff heavy crud at any speed. Would not even want to try same in the 176's. Even at 15% stiffer this year, these are moderate/soft flexing ski...

Concur 183's will be WAY better at your size/skill level.. Me 5'10"-178 lbs and I ski the 183's and they rock in almost any condition except ultra hard pack...

Beyond is right on with the stiff heavy crud comment, they are not a stiff ski by any means and prefer soft, lighter snow...

ALSO. You state you ski K2 Outlaws also. The Vokl's in 183 will initiate a turn quicker than the comparable outlaws. I skied the Outlaws for 2 years and switched to the Afterburners for quicked initiation phase. You will have no problem iwth the 183 Goats initiating turns anywhere.

Bushwacker had some great input in my buying the Gotamas see his threads on the subject under search.

I also need help here. I also have '07 Goats 176 which I use it most of the time last year. Just sold my '04 5 stars 168 and like to get the AC 50 for non-pow day. wondering which size. 163 or 170 on AC 50 will be better for me. I am level 7, 50 yrs old male 5'-7" 153 lbs. I ski most Pacific NW too. enjoy the the off-pist when snow is good. like to improve on bumps and trees.
Thanks

176??? Are you kidding me? Since you are 52 years old, the 183 might be an option. Otherwise I would say 190 is the only way to go. 176??? Hohoho.

I am 185...got the 183s and REALLY wish that I had grabbed the 190s. Everyone who talks about how short the ski was exactly right. Whatever size you think you need...go 1 up from there.

Get back to us after the snow flies and let us know how you're liking the skis. Hang around a little, there are quite a few Washingtonian skiers on epic you might want to ski with sometime.
