I plan western trips for our ski club. You would be best going with a big name trip organizer like ski can, ski.com, or Winter ski and sport. These organizer have contracts with the airlines regular travel agents do not have. Most likely one or more of these organizers have a group going to J-hole around the same time you would like to go. You possibly could tag on with one of these groups. I live in Michigan, an just looking at group trips on line i see one group who is going to J- hole Jan 10-17th with Air, ground transportation ,lodging, lift tickets, shuttles and I believe free breakfast all for around $1200

Nuts from where?
I just booked air from NY to JAC yesterday. It was $373 r/t and JH Central Reservations can hook you up with a buy 3 get one free deal on air if you book before 12/1 with lodging. So with 4 people you can get to JH for ~$285 from NY.

That's a great deal.

I would ask Bob Peters
He wrote an essay that had a ton of info on Jackson hole. Check this out http://forums.epicski.com/showthread.php?p=956167

I would look at ski clubs in your area to see what trips are pland and when or call one of these ski can, ski.com, or Winter ski and sport. Winter ski and sport has been good to me.

I do belong to 2 ski clubs. However, I have almost always been able to find a better deal on my own. I can go where I want and stay where I chose. If I was going to go on a ski club trip it would have to have been planned by me!

Not to knock ski club trips, if they fit what you're looking for you can get a good deal. However, the trip you just laid out above to JH - We're doing the same thing with just 4 guys. 7 nights in 2 Deluxe Suites at the 49er Inn (w/breakfast), air on AA, transfers, 5 day lifts - total with tax = $1,020.

The madness begins on 1/19.

That sounds like great price ... the group i was looking at is staying at the 49er also.. LOL I bet the price diff comes from the little extras the clubs like some times. Per trip parties, group dinner, post pitcher party.. or what ever

1/19 start date for Jackson Hole: often right in the sweet spot.

I was there twice before near there the end of Jan. The last time was Steep Camp in 2001. Both times the conditions were very good to outstanding. Time to try my luck again. It's been a long time and I'm psyched. There is no place I have more fond memories of than The Big One.

As an honor to The Big One, we're even bringing along a never-skied-the-west-before virgin as a sacrifice. We'll have him all diapered up for the first tram ride, that'll be fun to watch!

I'm not so sure about that. It's more likely the profit margin of whatever travel agent (online or otherwise) the club uses.

I am confident this is not the case.

This being said I am not telling SAL1355 to join a club or even a club trip. I am saying he could possibly TAG on to one of the group or club trips to get cheap air.
Clubs are looking for comps!!!! Usually 20 -25 people per comp, If a group has 24 people and need one or two more to get there air fare comp or Lift ticket comp they would love for someone to Tag on to their trip.

For instance our group is selling 48 spots (we cannot sell the 50 due to land transportation restrictions) However if we were to get two people to tag on to our group we would get an extra round trip air and 5 lift day lift ticket comp. This all adds up to big savings for the group or club and If it saves SAL1355 some cash also then good for him everyone is happy.

**Note** 1. My group is not going to Jackson, 2. I am not trying to sell trips in this forum
