Gear that goes in your pocket

Call me a gaper if you want, but there are some essentials that go in the pocket(s) of my vest/jacket every time I go out on the slopes. What goes in my pocket can change depending on where I'm skiing. For instance, I'll have sunscreen when I'm in Colorado, but its totally unnecessary in Michigan.

When I buy a jacket/vest, the number of pockets and pocket placement has always been high on my list of priorities, for things such as..........
My normal Pocket stash:
Wallet
Cell phone
camera
Antifog cloth
AAA batteries
small nail file
Pocket tool
car key
lip balm
pocket wax packet
advil/tylenol
Zip Lock with an small assortment of bandaids
peanut butter granola bar
Sunscreen(when in Colorado)

* MR TC always has a stash of snickers snackers in his pocket

How vital is pocket placement to you and what kinds of things do you stash in your pockets?

If you ever saw the scar on MrTC's neck where the stick stuck him you'd know why I carry bandaids.
Never did get the blood out of that shirt.

In Pockets:
  • Chapstick
  • Lock
  • Cliff Bar
  • Goggle Wipe
  • Cash/cc/ID
  • Car key (other keys stashed in the car)
  • Sm. Pozi-Drive
  • Ibuprofen
If carrying Backpack:
  • Most of the above gets moved
  • Spare goggles
  • Spare gloves
  • Hand warmers
  • Lunch
  • Water
  • Spray Wax
I ski on the east coast. The lodge isn't always real close to where I like to ski, and I like to stay out the full day.

I look at some of those items a sure to puncture and/or leave a nasty bruise in a fall.

We had to carry a pen to record accident info and student stuff and I went to Staples and bought one of those rubber "soft" pens.

Some things like a file, key or pocket tool could puncture a lung or organ in a fall. My pen, I carried in a side pocket by the hip .... no way it was going up front .. same with the car key.

Never, never ... carry your Semtex, det cord and lighter in the same pocket.

OOf, I do have a ski lock which I use when I'm on vacation. At home, I park close enough to the chair lift that I just put my equipment in the Jeep when I take a break.

I'm with VA, but I add lip balm with sunblock, google rag, powerbar, and a 10-spot. Climbing webbing strap for carrying skis on back if I'll be hiking a lot.

I always laugh at the people with backpacks when the parking lot is 5 min. away from the bottom of the lift.

Travel light, ski fast, never go inside.

The file I speak of is a thin throw away cardboard type. The tool is a t handle rounded, almost looks like a ball. The key, well, it is a key and I don't know what to do about that except try to be wise where I stash it.

On SkiDiva this topic came up and one of the women posted that, as a nurse, she sees a lot of rib injuries from cell phone pocket placement. I know I'm going to be more careful about where I put my cell phone.

We had this thread on April 5, or something like it. Anyway:

Spare socks (cannot recommend this enough)
Glove liners (if warm or wet, sometimes even two pairs)
Helmet liner
Energy or candy bar
1 liter water bottle
Lip balm
First aid tape
Ibuprofin or aspirin
Spare contacts and eyedrops
Something to clean goggles or sunglasses with
Bandaids
Spare pole basket (learned this one the hard way)
Money and season pass
Cellphone with camera
Face protection if it's cold
Camcorder, occasionally
Briko bike sleeves, occasionally (these are a cool way to regulate temp)
An orange when it's warm out

In theory, some kind of multi-tool, but I keep losing them...

I keep all this stuff in pockets, which makes for kind of a bulgy look on the slopes. Ski friends who see me on the street are always amazed that I'm not fat. Duct tape wrapped on pole, extra shirt tied around waist to complete the look.

Pedicure at lunch???

No tissues? TC are you one of those glove wipers?
I bought this Helly jacket that has pockets all over the place because I don't like to carry a pack. The thing drives me nuts though and feels like it weighs 5 lbs more than it should. I still use it since it is pretty new but I have a minimalist jacket now too.

No polish for me. Just a file. Again, one of those things that comes in handy for many things, not just nails

Wallet, car keys, digital camera, chocolate candy are pretty standard; everything else (including good stuff mentioned in this thread) is optional depending on weather and how far I'll be from car or lodge. The camera gets prime pocket space because I whip it out to take thousands of pictures each season even though 99.9% of them stink
post #27 of 68
Some things I forgot to mention:

Trail map
car keys
420 and associated gear
Door key only, to get back into the Jeep
One $100 dollar bill
Lip balm
Prickly- I love the idea of the basket. I am adding that to my camelbak. thanks
post #30 of 68
Lets see now...specifically in my pockets

Lip balm
Facial lotion
Goggles' sleeve
Cell phone
Walkie
Mp3 player
Wallet
Ticket for gear stowage
Leki carbide tip protectors (if I am using these poles)
Protein or snack bar
Trail map
Valet ticket
.357 S&W snub nose Magnum revolver nickle plated and custom engraved with 24k gold inlay and mother of pearl grips*

*just kidding
