One of Epic's most popular topics has not had any headlines as of late, since this place always has plenty of new people as well as plenty of gear heads, who is sporting a helmet this season? Feel free to share why or why not.

Richie, Its obvious that you've suffered from a brain injury or you wouldn't have started this thread.

I have always worn a helmet that covers the ears but not the jaw. What are some of the drawbacks/positives about wearing a full face helmet?

I never wore one when I skiied.(I skiied for 15 years before turning to the darkside) Now I wear one everytime when I go out Boarding. It may be because I'm getting older, Don't heal as quickly, and still tend to get a little nuts on the snow.

Full, no jaw. I have no need for a full helmet with a jaw guard, and it looks goofy as hell. If looks weren't a factor, maybe, but I am a walking (well, skiing) billboard, and looks are everything.

Billboard?--Just wondering what you are advertising.

Giro G10MX...has a visor. Would not ski without a helmet...greatfully wondering how I did for 40 years.

I've always worn a helmet that covers the jaw, but not the ears or the head.

I'm in sales.

As my old manager used to say:

Sampson slew 10,000 Philistines with the jaw of an ass. Every day, 10,000 sales are lost with the same weapon.

Not sure if it is a drawback or positive, but wearing full face helmet makes you look like Richie-Rich

Also handy if you get into an altercation with a snowboarder.

Got a new Fuse this year, 09 has a head lock. I got the bluetooth/Ipod adaptor. I will post a review once I use it skiing. I will say, the initial setting went well.

Bringing World Cup caliber ski equipment and service to all skiers - from pro ski racers to everyday all mountain skiers and into the...

Nice to see that we only need to do this once a year. Yeah, I would like a Giro Fuse, but I always end up buying lift tickets with my money instead. My rationalization: I don't NEED a helmet; I need lift tickets (skiing time greatly increased by the lift in the East, an Off-piste is pretty much just cross-country here).

After seeing my friend get a concussion last year, Im really thinking about picking one up...

I've seen this movie before. Why would I want to watch it again?

For anyone who doesn't want to follow the whole thread, here's how it goes (eventually):

1. I always wear a helmet. Why wouldn't you? It's safer than not wearing one and it's warm to boot.

2. Prove it's safer!

3. Prove that it's not!

4. I never wear a helmet because I ski so fast it won't be of any help anyway, ever. And I never lower the bar either.

5. Hemlets should be mandatory!

6. Nazi!

7. My friend's best friends brothers sister knew this guy who would have died if he didn't have a helmet. I always wear one now. It's safer.

8. I have statistics that prove wearing a helmet isn't any safer. They're statistics I tell you! They must be right. No, I don't know the source.

9. Sonny Bono!

10. Who?

11. You're such an **^(&*&(&*(^%% dumb&#( no wonder you don't waer a helmet!

12. Snell ratings!

13. You probably ride a motorcycle without a helmet too!

14. I could buy two lift tickets for the price of a helmet!

15. Full FACE!!! Oh the mercy! Save the necks!

16. Full face = no bj!

17. Nascar!!

18. When JONGS lower the bar on your head!

19. Who lowers the bar?

20. Helmets make me feel safer so I go faster.

I think that about sums it up.

That motivates me to make sure I don't lower the bar on your head! (Well maybe it't be all right if I'm wearing my super-high-end high tech water and brain-proof coat... hmmm.. Was that tasteless?)

FYI, the Fuse is COLD for least coast application. I only use mine for spring skiing. Plus those BIG vent holes (that let in the cold in even when closed) have a nasty habit of filling with snow when you do a header, letting the cold melting snow drip, drip, drip onto your head, making it even colder. Of course you could open the vents then get the world's worst brain freeze.

I have an Omen and G10, and some Leedoms that I use for the regular season - save the Fuse for the spring or take the ear pads off and use it for mountain biking.

BTW, those gaper-friendly full faces have a nasty habit of pulling your neck via the jaw section, causing more severe injury than would otherwise be. Avoid them. Dumbness.

I am glad you asked.

Positives:
For one thing, it can potentially save your teeth from ice, an errant pole, or the safety bar Nazi riding on the lift with you.

It can also save your face from ice rash, or a broken cheek bone, or a broken nose, by either collision with an ice patch, another skier, or any of the other hard objects one may encounter on a typical, ski slope. It helps deflect the cold air a little so you stay a little warmer.

If you do any skiercross it will prtect you from the other animals trying to beat you. If you do any gate racing, your face will be protected from the gates (provided that they allow you to use the helmet, some race sanctions do not...(too much safety not allowed, gotta preserve some of the danger).

Drawbacks:
Hard to use a cell phone, harder to drink or eat something, if you ski at a snails pace there is a good chance you may have goggle fogging. Some people think its over kill and that you shouldn't wear one unless you are hucking 50' cliffs.

Edit: almost forgot, you'll get many....I mean many, people who love to preach wives tales about how you'll snap your neck if you use a full face helmet....consider this an opportunity to play with them, since they know not of what they speak, and when called out cannot support their fairy tale.

Yep....its begun, here we go again.

Havent you learned yet that there is absolutely no proof nor recorded instances of your usually foolish statement?
The poll is flawed!

I have 3 helmets.

1) Soft ear covers.

2) Hard ear covers.

3) Hard ear covers with a chin guard. Getting hit in the face with a gate, thats enough reason!

Try some of the sites where they tend do some hills a little more gnar than Stratton, and learn a little.

When using a full face, the jaw section drags on the snow, stretching the neck , and immobilizing your head, stretching the neck. Simple, no?

I'm not sure whether "A mind is a terrible thing to waste", or "ignorance is bliss" is more appropriate. Just use a little common sense and get back to us. A full face on pool table vertical hills .

I am wondering if responding to your ignorant posts makes me the truly ignorant one.

Look here silly person, had you taken the time to actually do some reading and research on the topic instead of your usual spewage of stupidity and negativity, you would have a clue as to the reality of the situation. To put it blatantly you are 100% wrong. Read more type less and please for the love of GOD:

Yeah, me too, off SAC. Worked great with my iPhone in tests.
