creepy ad

Is there anyone else that finds the ad on the site of that woman pointing at you incredibly creepy? So much so that you don't even want to visit the site? The must be SOME way to make it go away. Perhaps the admins should tell the people who put the ad up that all 19,000 members refuse to ever buy anything from any company that advertises on the side banners until they pull it.....

Banner ads across the interweb are a necessary evil. I never look at them or even notice them anymore.

Agree, but this one is so incredibly awful!! How on earth do the morons who design hideous things like this think that it will bring them any business?

Now I'm looking for it and I can't find it. Before I read that it was trekchick I thought maybe someone was using Sarah Palin in a ski ad...

I'm afraid that Darwinism will start to creep into the ads. As more and more people learn to ignore them, they will be come more and more obnoxious to try to get our attention. A moronic version of survival of the fittest. Sort of like all those flashing ads across the bottom of the TV screen when you are trying to watch your favorite program. I hate Madison Avenue!

T-Square is correct. It is to offset banner blindness...and it worked. Believe it or not, ads like that are effective. In fact (if it were still there) you pointing it out makes it even more effective, even if your comments are negative. They may not work well for the majority here as this forum has a higher average IQ and better taste than most users, but across the board that is the stuff that gets clicked.

Why do you think there are so many infomercials on TV? It's not because the people creating them think they are really tasteful.

This issue of targeted ads needs to be addressed. Take a look at this site, a forum for Audio Gear nuts. The ads are all from audio suppliers. It would seem that there would be a way that we could take control of our ads, take it away from the current provider and do something like this where ski manufacturers, resorts, travel suppliers buy ads. What a great targeted opportunity for them.
