ESA Big Sky 2009 - Page 9

They rent complete set-ups with a thin pack, shovel and beacon at the mountain for $20 a day.  I have an extra I'll be bringing along & I'll see if I can round up another.

Rio, can I be included in the Saturday at Bridger?  Gladly pay the $20 rental.  Do you have name of shop so I can reserve with credit card? Video looks cool.  PLEASE

Put me down for Sunday too..since you will be my ride anyway. Dibs on a second beacon if we are going to need them.

Pete -

You were one of the two I was counting for Saturday; Philpug is the other.  I have one peep to lend so the two of you need to figure out who will need to rent the other.....I'll try finding another to borrow between now and then.  I can't find the number of the rental shop.  The general reservation number is 800-223-9609.

Currently the plan Sunday is for me to show people around Big Sky.  We'll need to start early and will probably only scratch the area by closing time.  (Of course, if we get a storm that blesses Bridger more than Big Sky I reserve the right to change my plans.)

OK, so pretty firm:  Philpug and I Saturday at Bridger, Sun at Big Sky - guided tour or mt.  That raises a question.  Recommend cheap lodge in I guess Bozeman for Fri nite and Sat nite.  I will drive down Fri., too far for Sat AM drive (about 6 1/2hrs I think).   Philpug when are you getting in?  Want to share a room Fri or Sat night and then off to Big Sky  Sun AM.  Use my truck.  Still early I know but won't be here next week (Mammoth) and not taking laptop with me (have to fly down to Reno).  Anyway how does the above sound?  Any other bears are of course welcome too.

I have made the fine print larger!! This is a real possibility out there so take note.  Also, it's only a good thing!

I was planning on staying with Rio on Fri & Sat night.

I have an extra beeper, shovel, and pack, and would be happy to loan it out provided I can go along.

Basically you are wearing a body finder. They struggled over the new policy Epic. In the end they decided that requiring a partner, beacon, and shovel was just too much to ask to ride a lift. So then the issue became do we want to have two different policies on the mountain, one policy for hiking to the ridge from the top of bridger lift, and a different one to ride the new lift to the ridge (giving you the ability to hike over to the same terrain). So the beeper only became the new mountain policy for both hiking and riding the schlashmans lift. So far it has been working, including the new open boundary policy.

5 weeks!  Wow its coming fast!

OMG!!!

Okay. We can do this.

After reading about the fantastic terrain, the presence of Eski and Robin, foosball, hugs from Trekchick and tours with Rio I just had to sign up.  Can't wait to meet and ski with you all.

I get into Bozeman Sat evening and leave the next Sun.  Like many who have posted here I would like to ski Big Sky on Sun; then after ESA do Big Sky on Fri and Bridger on Sat.  Would it be better to stay at Big Sky the whole time or should I book a room in Bozeman for part of the time?

Planning on having a great time there..anyone have a problem with that?

My plans are quite similar to yours in regards to lodging,  Since I haven't been to Big Sky as yet, I'm not sure what the best course of action is.  At the moment, I'm booked at Big Ski for the duration, but that can be changed.

Awesome bshon!!

In terms or your question, well if you're getting into Big sky on Sat. and want to save some money, I'd recommend staying in Bozeman or near Bozeman Sat. night.  Then you have to get up there Sun. but that's no different I think then Sat.  Lodging will be half of what it is in Big Sky.

One can actually get to Bridger by bus from Big Sky but it doesn't run all that often.  Same with Bozeman I believe.

Looks like Squatty and I are gonna do a coupla days at Bridger after Big Sky as well.  It's a place I've always wanted to see and ski, and never have.

Of course, I also know that it is way over my head.  So I will probably stay in the lodge and just worship it.

It's not over your head, Weems, but you will be tempted to leave the frou-frou forever.

He really isn't that tall of a guy. But he is towering in spirit.

Martin,

Will we get to see you at all? I would like to chat with you for a bit.

Sorry, I am working here in Zermatt for the next two weeks.
My wife said there was a lot of snow in our driveway yesterday so sounds like you lucked out so far. :)

Yep it is deep.  As good as those photos are, the current conditions show a lot more coverage.  It is truly amazing up here now.

Enjoy Zermatt.

Mike
