6' minimum

When there's a 6' base at Wolf Creek or Taos and a new storm coming, I load the Toyota Hylander, 4 cyl. 27 mpg highway, and go!

Damn, you're pretty demanding of Mother Nature. I know last year rocked, but in a regular year you don't get those conditions at Taos well into January right? Wolf Creek is another story though, they can get those 6' in a weekend sometimes.

As soon as I get in my second day. My first day sucked.

When I've gone to enough ski movies to be sick of 'em (which is now), and I'm texting again at 6am with my ski friends who I haven't seen since May and we're deciding which north-facing slope has enough cover to skin up (which is soon).

On October 16th, I skied Loveland from 9 to 11:30, hiked up Mt Sniktau from Loveland Pass for lunch, then hit A-Basin from 2:30 to close. Loveland had better snow and shorter lines. The hiking was a bit windy.

today, or....

Today (A-Basin) marked 48 months in a row for my Turns All Year, so I am not sure if it counts as the last day of last season, the first day of this season, or BOTH! (I am inclined to think of it as the latter, if that isn't cheating). The Basin had gorgeous weather today- sunny, upper 40's not a bit of wind, and, unfortunately, hordes of teenage boarders. I had assumed that on a weekday it would be empty, but it must be some sort of school vacation day. Nevertheless, the single lines were not very long and they tended to congregate in the park, so the 2 runs that were open weren't too congested, so I really have nothing to complain about. Snow surface was mostly pretty firm. I left about 2:45 and it was so nice when I got home I went out for a quick 20 mile bike ride! It isn't too often that I can do both in one day.

Mentally, my season started yesterday. The few days of lift serviced before yesterday were decent, but yesterday everything felt like it was working again.

Catalooche opened today! (but just two green runs)

I won't have funds or bandwidth to ski until Thanksgiving Saturday.

No one wants to give me a ride since developing AMS my first day. Kinda sucks but understandable.

why- do you get car sick too?
If you can meet me somewhere along the way (dinosaur lots?) I'll share a ride some time. Not sure when my next day will be, but I think I may wait for some additional terrain to open, or perhaps get a half day only on Sunday.

This Sunday, on the glacier at Tignes, when I get my first turns in preparation for the season in Park City.

But some young friends loaded their skis on their bikes after work yesterday, headed for various parks and got turns in London! Snow in October, who'd have thunk it?

You can assume the skis were mudhoppers, of course, but still ...

For me the ski season ALWAYS begins right at the first hint of fall. As fall progresses I check out new gear, accessories, equipment. I buy my season pass, I read ski reviews, etc, etc.

My local area opens by late november usually, but my season already began 2 months before.

Given the opportunity, I'll pull out my rock skis and ski on NO base if I have to!

Naw...he's actually pretty entertaining on the car ride...and no puking either. I'd have offered a ride last weekend Gnar, but I was staying up there on Sat night, so didn't think it'd work for you.
