When Does the 08-09 Season Start for You?

Thread Starter
I haven't been on skis yet, so in my mind the 08-09 season hasn't started.

That was until my wife said that the 08-09 season started with the arrival of the first buyers guide and I started getting the gear out and waxing skis.

So, when does the 08-09 season start?

Today. I skied A-Basin.

I was doing 08-09 ski shopping and buying last February.

Some people just like to BRAG. I would too if we had any snow.

My season starts when I set up the tuning stand and take off the summer wax and put on the ski wax. Hasn't happened yet. Pray for snow!

Whenever Big Sky opens...

I'm waiting for enough of the mountain to be open to make it worthwhile -- and to make me feel like I'm not taking my life in my hands to share the WROD.

Ski season started for me yesterday (A-Basin)\, less than 4 months after last season ended on summer solstice (Gray's Peak).

I set up the tuning table in the basement in the house we're renting for the season today. So I guess it's started, BTW it was 18F at 7AM in Ludlow VT.

Its begun, started waxing and making reservations...buying ski related stuff is never ending so that doesnt even count at this point, its just a part of life.

Today!

Skied A-Basin today.

Conditions were surprisingly decent. Virtually no rocks, but lots of boarders and skiers (mostly 20-somethings).

I think it will start this coming Thursday or Friday at A-Basin. It finished on July 29 at Valle Nevado.

Big Sky tries to open the week of Thanksgiving. Bridger tries to open the first week of December. We'll see.

Let's just see if Moonlight will try to open bwahahahahaha (and--dang! that was my PT job!)

BC skiing starts earlier. I'm hoping to hit Mt Ellis (a good warm-up skin/ski) around 11/8.

Also, we put the ski racks on the ski cars today, and now that the Red Sox have lost, hubby can go back to the garage to finish tuning the skis.

Not for a while. I hate going when the hills just open. Always areas with no snow, rocks showing, dirt patches. I'll wait for a little bit until there is some good snow coverage.

Dec 28 in Breckenridge, after flying 12+ hours from São Paulo/Brazil...

Whenever my local hill opens or if it is late, whenever I get too tired of waiting.

When we get some damn snow. Epic and the mags are foreplay...

I'm hoping for Thanksgiving weekend. Tuning and waxing doesn't count in my book.

When the snow comes to Scotland so could be Nov could be Feb... March!

I agree. It will typically be the weekend after Thanksgiving for us.

This is a tough one for me. I almost feel like I started ski season when my jones rating went from Mt Biking to Skiing and went over 8.5.

I've been really tempted to get out the tuning stuff but am holding back because I know that fondeling and carressing my skis while tuning them will put me over the edge.

When will my skis hit snow?
Thanksgiving weekend.

Doesn't end. Skiing is a 4 season sport for me. Buying season, prep season, on snow season and selling season. Now there is a lot of overlap, I am well seasoned.

Buying my pass this week, but my hill won't open until mid-November at least. Could go elsewhere, but too much of a hassle. I'm in no hurry. It's great biking weather in the hills and seaside right now...

Ski season officially starts for me Sat Nov 8th cold temps permitting.
I don't count my season as starting until I put my skis on snow and point them downhill. Which rarely happens before the first weekend in December for me. Barring a late November opening weekend
at MSLM or Horseshoe that's worth travelling for, I won't be on snow until Dec. 6th or slightly before. Luckily there are still pre-season activities to psych me up. Finally got an appointment to get some new boots (Head Raptor 130s) fitted, and there's planning to be done for organizing my instructing schedule and course conductor training. Enough to get me itching to go, even though I've still got another 6 weeks almost to go.
