No, I'm just an old has-been hunter, Mainiac. For 30 years I went into the woods early October and came out in December,,, hunting whitetail and turkey. Went through a bit of a graduated transformation, from bloodthirsty in my youth,,, to competitive trophy hunter later on,,, to just enjoying being in the woods, finding mixed pleasure in the taking of meat. Been in Colorado for 3 years now, bears mule deer and elk walk by the house regularly, and have yet to go to field. No freezer yet,,, the licensing process is a pain in the a$$,,, and honesty, the motivation factor has kinda tanked.
Congrats on the eight pointer, though. Post your pics, I'll be the judge if you get any other entries. Shot placement, distance, how far deer traveled after hit,,, all part of the scoring.
Here's the report from the field here in midstate SC:
While the moon was somewhat off, the yearlings were kicking some does about. I saw a pretty spike, probably about 150 yards west from my stand, working south until about three hundred yards below me. I saw him chasing does! Talk about out of control hormones…..the does were so offended they moved east to another bedding area! Did not see mistuh big stuff I was waiting for…..did see one buck slipping through pines….could not get a shot.
Attention! Two weeks from now the moon will be kicking the Deer out to coincide with the rut….be ready!
Rick I'm slowing down somewhat myself. Active friend of mine wants me to go to Africa....he goes every year.....I'm scared of the economy however.
