Where to go?

Me and my room mates are taking off a semester here in GA to come out and hit the mountain. Where are the best places to live to be close to the best mountains, and also close to civilization. Also, what are the best deals on season passes that we can get. I heard of buy one get one free deals from banks, but does anyone know anything about this?

Go to Summit County, you'll be near to Denver, there are great pass deals and the weather is really nice.

If you plan to work get a resort job that provides a free pass (hopefully to multiple mountains) just try not to work TOO much.

Wells Fargo does BOGO but you need to be a current student or university staff employee to qualify for the coupon-plus you have to open an account with them. I think that offer ends very soon. Look on the Boulder or Denver craigslist.

Most employers offer free employee passes in a resort area. Bring lots of money for housing if you want to be close to a ski area and near civilization. check the resorts websites for pass options. Most pre-season pricing ends around mid-Nov.

Go to Salt Lake City. You can live in town (i.e. civilization) cheap, be 20-40 minutes from 7 different resorts, get part time work at the resorts and pick up a free pass or just ski/ride.

Oh and they do claim to have the greatest snow on earth. It says so right on their license plates so it must be true.

I applaud you on taking the year off and tackling this quest. It is something I have always wanted to do. I had a few buddies who I used to work with in a ski shop in Wisconsin and they moved out to Telluride. They landed good jobs in a ski shop out there are are provided with passes from work. I went out there to visit them and they usually had to work mornings but would take off afternoons and come out with us. The nightlife there is also very fun and the locals are accepting and fun. Best of luck. Let us know what you end up doing.
