Salomon boot length question??

Im trying to find out how Salomon works the size difference on there boots in terms of a size 26 vs 26.5 ? Short length the liner?? Change the zeppa?? The shell is the same length,so i would like to know how they do it...thanks

Not just Salomon. It will be too expensive to produce the shell for each size. The difference is in the liner.

Depends on which model. Most maufacturers don't even change the liner on the half size any more. In most cases the only difference is the stock footbed (thicker on the smaller size) but there are still some higher end models that change the liner.

You were soooo close to getting this right... the stock footbed is the difference in ALL boots, which means that in reality there is only a difference in the sticker on the boot and the size on the box. There are no 1/2 sizes in ski boots. It's all an illusion because customers want to have 1/2 sizes... change the sticker and bingo, evryone is happy. Now you know.

Thanks for the feedback..... the reason i was asking is when i asked a few ski shops around here, they gave 3 different answers......1 the liner is shoter....2 the zeppa is higher....and 3 the stock footbed is thicker. the boot in question is the salomon falcon 10 and the salomon impact 10....i know the differance between these two boots with the exception of the half size length question.

While true in general, are you 100% sure wrt to Salomon? Shells are same a whole & half. But the last I pulled any Salomon boots apart, the liners themselves had different part numbers for half sizes vs whole (this was true across a range of models). Given the logistical and financial issues w/ managing additional part numbers, I find it hard to imagine Salomon would manage these as different parts if they were not actually slightly different in thickness..

I've also been told by several bootfitters that Salomon varies the liners themselves...

Anyone have a real "final word" on this?

Looks like you have your answer then.

My Solomon X-wave 8s are in storage, but I recall that certain parts actually cover more than a full size. I remember being told that the .5 size difference was with the liner, but I was trying to figure out if I have a 30 or 30.5 and couldn't find anything that give a clear indication (maybe worn out?).

what's a zeppa?

If you pull the liner, there's a platform for your foot in the boot....

I'm going to have to say that you were "soooo close to getting this right" There is no way you can that is the difference in "ALL" boots. 99% of boots maybe but ALL no way. I point out some plug boots that truly use different liners, the Garmont Shaman also uses different liners. So, almost ALL boots sure, ALL nope

I have the Salomon Crossmax 110, wich has different liners for the same shell. 29 vs 29,5 (same 29 shell!) gave me exactly the extra room I needed. So it had a little less volume inside.

shells no half sizes, most liners no half sizes, salomon small amount extra padding across the saddle of the liner[ either side of the tongue ] not sure if in lower spec models

the cuff on most boots will cover 2 shell sizes ie 22.0, 22.5,23.0,23.5

but in essence there are no true half sizes because the liners will pack out just the same
