I have some money (a rare event) and I would like to update my skis. I have been skiing for 30 years but took some time off and just started on shape skis five years ago. My current skis are Atomic Metron 9s mid 170s in length. I have demoed longer, stiffer skis and think I would like a faster more stable ski. I like the quickness and turnabilty of my 9s and don't want to give that up. I would like to be able to go off piste more and get better at it but I am big and I sink. I was thinking of getting some Volkl AC 5os, Fischer Cold heats, Atomic Crimsons, Blizzard Magnums, K2 appache xplorer, I just don't know which or have the time or money to try them all. I am 40 y.o., 6' tall, 300 lbs., advanced skiing ability, mostly ski at Sugarloaf in Maine. Can someone help? I thank you in advance.

i'm not trying to give you grief, but i just want to double check: 300 lbs? because that is going to make a HUGE difference in what skis people should be recommending to you, and in what lengths.

Look at the Top Fuel (Nordica). It can take a beating and it's perfect for the conditions you describe. You'll need the metal. How about the Hellcat. MI88 could do the trick - longer.

Then take the Recon and Crimson out of the selection, they will wash right out on you. Demo the other 3.

Thanks Philpug, I will. I am going to try the Hellcat by Nordica too I think. Now all we need is some snow. The Presidentials were white this weekend so it won't be long.

I think demo day is the second weekend in December this year @ the loaf. I know the volkl's will be there and probably most of the others you mentioned. I thought about waiting untill then to try a couple of those same ones, but I think I'm just going with the AC50's. I like my current volkls enough to want to stick with Volkl.

Just as an FYI, great deal out there now for the hellcats on backcountry.com when you use the 50% off code.
