Pow boards? That's a huge question. So many to choose from. A lot of new stuff. That's a whole different post. It's a personal preference thing. I would see if you can demo some different boards. I don't think they have nailed down the whole rocker/partial issue but there are some interesting ones this season. I am not the best person to recommend a powder board. I am skiing my Shamans again this season FWIW.

The PM Gear Rocker looks interesting, and Praxis gets a ton of chatter on here.
Wish I were in a position to become a powder ski expert. Alas, I bow to the powder gurus.

Pure pow ski. The argos is 101 underfoort it can ski any depth. If your skiing the bird your gonna get 2 untracked runs on a good day. How wide do you want to go. I guess you could buy a kuro ski 2 runs go back to your car and grab the Argos for the crud that follows. The Blizzard answer is 105 underffot and softer so it may be a better pure powder ski. Im starting to think you cant live with just 2 skis. I think your gonna need 2 more.

I will definitely be expanding my quiver in the future. I think it would be best to just start with the Argos and the 8.1 and buy more as money allows. Buying two pairs of skis is going to put me on a ramen noodle diet for a month

tim, i thought the "answer" was supposed to be a pretty hefty, stiff board?

softer

I really like the answer, but it is softer than the Argos.

I don't see much talk about the Zeus. Is it the red headed step child of the blizzard line?

Also, if you were to go a 3 ski quiver, which ski's would you get?

I may actually just set myself up for a 4 ski quiver. something in the 120mm range, 100mm range, 88-92mm range, and 76-84mm range.

I came here looking for one ski, and look what you hooligans did to me.

-edit: I bet I would be thrilled to just have the Argos and 8.1's. Ptex I'm gonna call you today or tomorrow.

that was too easy......... welcome my friend........

3 blizzards? Answer- cronos - 8.1

one 5.14 binding or a 5.14 and a duke.

Can't speak to the Argos, but he has it right about the lifespan of a superfat most places in bounds...

The Blizzard guys compare the Gotama from Volkl to the ANSWER IQ from Blizzard, while the Argos IQ is more like the Volkl Mantra.

If you're gonna get an Argos, then the magnum you want is the 8.1

If you're gonna get just one pair of skis for the skiing profile you projected, then get the 8.7

Fair enough?

I don't know if I'd call it the red headed step child, but it definitely isn't as versatile as the Argos. If I lived in Jackson or skied at Snowbird/Alta every day, my 2 ski quiver would be a Zeus and an Argos. The zeus is just so damn big and straight that it scares a lot of people off.... 58 m Radius!!! I bet on the right feet they really rip, though.

So now that you got more than what you were aiming for. Did you change your mind about this too? Do it!

Honestly, I was looking up at the tops of the mountains today where there's already some snow, and I told my buddy we had to hike up there and ski down. I'm sure I would think it was a good idea until about 20 steps up the mountain

I purchased the 180 argos and 172 8.1's, and some 172 8.1's for my father. Thanks to everyone that provided input, and I would heavily recommend calling up John and Tim (ptex1) if you're looking for a ski. They have been very helpful. I'll be calling them in the future when I want some dukes or some more skis to add to my quiver.

Thanks For the business

Your gonna be stoked on the Blizzards. Look forward to hearing your reports on the skis. TIm

Yo,

Get the 8.7/8.1 Blizzi magnum 174, and the Argos,187/Scott P4, 191 ...
The Magnums are a bit too stiff for deep snow, but excel in groomers, soft snow and shallow crud...

Ptex has the best selection, advice and prices...

Was wondering if you guys could give me your opinions.
I'm looking for a ski for when we get hit by storms in VT. My everyday ski is the Nordica Nitrous at 170..
I was suggested the Blizzard Titan Cronus...But that the Argos could also be good. I'm 220lb, 5'11....ski in the tree's for 1/2 the day at least.

What ski would you go for and at what length?

both great choices

My choice would be the argos if your only skiing it on new snow days . I just love that ski. If you need a sweet deal on either pair let me know. DOnt rule out the Answer flexes more like the chronus but wider underfoot. Not as demanding of a ski in tight trees
