But, I had to respond to a post above above suggesting that Audi's S4, as the only competition to the Subaru WRX, is quite a bit slower. Not true, its quite a bit faster and, given the substantially superior interior, suspension, drivetrain and engineering, possibly well worth the $20k permium.

sorry, but for 44 large, i could wait until next year for the WRX STI, at around 33k, 0-60 in 5.1-5.2 seconds, and still have room left over for new ski gear and 10 seasons worth of season passes. even the performance numbers you mentioned are a little bit off.
Subaru WRX wagon 0-60 in 6.0 seconds, quarter mile in 14.8, $26000
Audi S4 Avant 0-60 in 5.9 seconds, quarter mile in 14.7, $44000
an extra $18000 for the german nameplate? nah i dont think so, and its still a little out of my price range.
still havent heard about how the WRX performs in snow and ice. i know it handles superbly and is able to drift with all four on loose dirt and gravel. anyone know how the low range is for traction in the snow? im also considering the passat 4 motion wagon, but its a little bit more expensive and has less power.
