I've been lurking about these "fora" for over a year now, and have never registered or felt compelled to post until now (and I'm probably screwing up the mechanics of posting in any event). But, I had to respond to a post above above suggesting that Audi's S4, as the only competition to the Subaru WRX, is quite a bit slower. Not true, its quite a bit faster and, given the substantially superior interior, suspension, drivetrain and engineering, possibly well worth the $20k permium. That said, as another poster later stated, the older Audi SCars with the I5 20-valve turbo engines are superior to the newer S4s, as ski cars. They're bigger, rock solid, and (don't tell CSP this) will hold in excess of 125 mph (with lots of throttle left) all the way up I70 from Georgetown to the tunnel, on those rare no traffic days. But, most importantly, whether you drive a Subie WRX, Audi S4, or older Audi S4/S6, those low-center of gravity, AWD cars will outperform all SUVs in slippery/snowy conditions everytime. Having grown up on Audi quattros, it scares me to death to drive my Chevy Subdivision in snowy/icy conditions, even in 4-wheel drive. Hope to see some of you guys at Copper next week.
