Happy Birthday Volantaddict! - Page 2

Happy Birthday VA,

Just think ,only a couple more dozen and you'll be able to play the old coot with the antique steel skis who can ski the donkey off the yuppies with the new trendy equipment (you don't look old enough yet).  So long as you don't do anything dumb in the meantime, and I don't think you will.

Top of the morning to ya Mr V ..I'm happy to recognize the significance of the anniversary of your birth and am grateful you walk amongst us. You often provide moral guidance , timely and sometimes scorching but necessary and appreciated, if not by others, definitely by myself.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday in Griztown and the surrounding area VA.  A cyberbeer to ya, and a real one when the opportunity arises.

How those new liners feeling?    As you get old your feet require much more attention.

The liners were from last year's birthday (best liners I've ever skied). When you've been around here long and loud enough, they reuse the previous year's birthday thread.

VA, I asked for ski wax for my birthday.  Did you ask for ski wax and steel polish?

Yeah, it was a tad bit firm when I was there. Maybe you should come over here and ski the TRUE GREATNESS of The Bowl.

VA:

Speaking as a more senior skier, as I sure you have experienced, as you get older it becomes harder and harder to maintain the strength and endurance of your youth.  The obvious solution is to become smoother and more precise so that you use less effort, and use it in the most effective manner possible.  Although I have not had the pleasure of seeing you ski, I have a sneaking suspicion that you are on the right track.

Hope you have a happy birthday, and that I finally make it back to the Bowl this season to see if I am right.

I found that I need to wear more clothing than a did a couple years ago, I think it is because I am increasingly allowing gravity to do the work that I used expend resisting it. The less I resist gravity the faster I go, and the speed cools me all the more.

Skiing is like many other things that I analogize to swimming, if you are doing it just 5% wrong, it takes 20% more effort.  So if you are doing it right, you remain cool in several ways, although you can't discount a slow down in metabolism with age.

As you very name implies, in the face of advancing age and gravity the best option is to be smooth.  Your skis and gravity can do an amazing amount of the work for you if you ride them right.  I sincerely hope I get the chance to throw a few big smoothies with you at the Bowl this year.

Happy Birthday!

Father time would do well to look as young as you.  Hmmmm, there is some resemblance.......

Dog's water froze last night---it won't be long now!

I doubt not that my predilection for riding steel skis has likely saved quite a bit of the wear and tear that tend to go with skiing every day during the season.

It'll be cool if you can make it, I always enjoy when the various far flung Bowlheads come home to visit, suddenly there is this new person (to me) that all my friends already know. It serves as a rallying point for festivities.

For those who don't know, "Father Time" was a nickname given to me by some ski patrollers at The Bowl.

Yes, and I have some I'd be willing to part with, if you're serious.
