Killington probably doesn't know it yet, but they probably would be classified as a "donor" town. Yes, we in NH started taxing the "rich" towns more than the "poor" towns as they invented in Vermont. Another move toward socialism and communism.
re: WalMart, we have a new Super WalMart in Plymouth, NH and I've got to tell you that it's been a god-send. Prices are a lot lower there than anywhere in the Boston area or any other area that I know of.
If Killington becomes a part of New Hampshire, will the people who drink at bars on the access road have their accidents in New Hampshire, or in Vermont?
Will skiers injured at Killington only go to hospitals in NH? or will some of them still go to Rutland? If they're Walmart employees (in other words, without medical insurance) will NH pick up the cost of their treatment?
Will the salt runoff from Killington's roads, the spilt lubricants from it's lift machinery, and the waste water from it's businesses go to NH or VT?
A town seceding from a state when economic/tax conditions in the state turn bad is like a man divorcing his wife when she gets ill.
Come to think of it, it does sound like a republican plan (You may recall that Newt Gingrich served his wife with divorce papers while she was hospitalized undergoing treatment for cancer. Family Values in action).
I think it's great. It's time we start bitch slapping politicians
until they pay attention.Across the country, real estate taxes are out of control, jobs are leaving the country and all these scum bags can think of is to raise OUR taxes to make up for their shortfall. In the middle ages, when taxes were out of control, the locals would behead the tax collector and put his head on a pike. There it would stay until it rotted away as a warning to those who would follow in his footsteps.THAT'S a poltical expresion I can relate to.
Can they join NH quickly? Like, before the Democratic Primary, so all those hundreds of annoying, rude and intrusive Kerry, Gephardt, Dean, Kucinich, Lieberman, Clark, Edwards, Sharpton and Mosley-Braun campaign workers can maybe go bother them for a while and leave us alone?
