Salomon Tornados - Length Question

I just picked up a pair of Salomon Tornados (178) to add to my quiver for use as a pair of all mountain cruisers. It was an impulse decision (great deal) but now I am wonderig if the 178 is too big? In checking the web, most of the reviews and postings seem to be based on the 170 length.

I've never had Salomon skis before, but since I have a pair of cheater GS and SL skis for icy days here in the east, I thought I'd give the Tornado's a try.

I'm 6'0, 185 lbs, and would consider myself a strong skier and ski about 35-40 times a year.

If you are a strong skier and are 6ft, 185 then the 178 is definitely not too long for you, you should be able to bend 'em just fine. Just for s&g's, how long is your GS?

Thanks. My GS skis are 178.

OK then, rather than the 178 being too big for you I think that a 170 would feel REALLY short for this type of ski. Enjoy 'em!

Much ski testing etc is done in the early season and 170 is generally the first size available. It is also sort of the reference size for Joe Average these days and is commonly the "design length" with many companies. (at least for this category of ski)

Depending on your intended use, I think the 178 is probably the better size for you in that ski. With some other skis, maybe you'd think more seriously about a 170 but at least for the Tornado....you done good.
