Long Island day trips, where???? - Page 3

A 3 hour drive is ok but I'll not stay overnight in the Catskills. Maybe an off weekend at Hunter, you know, the weekend after a holiday weekend. Seems the resorts are a little less crowded after a long weekend, at least it is around here.

just set up your SUV to sleep overnight in. Then you're all set...

Shhhh. Plattekill is the best kept secret in the Catskills. When it snows this place rocks. In lean snow years they have trouble keeping coverage due to lack of enough ponds to supply water. But in fat snow years it's uncrowded, with good steeps and top to bottom bump runs. Even with only a double and a triple, there's never a lift line. Only open on weekends, but weekday storms of 12" or more, they'll spin the lifts for 100% ungroomed. So-o-o worth the extra 20 mins it takes to get there. This is the kinda place where you find expert skiers skiing in Carhartt overalls. The anti-Hunter.
